Since bugouts have been the topic of late,I thought I'd bring this up.I believe planning out your route before hand is KEY,because nobody else is.

Everyone will simply take the same roads they take to and from work etc.Whichever roads back up around you at rush hour will be many times as backed up.The roads people use to get around the daily back ups will also be impossible to drive on.

No one gives these things any thought.Remember the night club fire last year in R.I.? Over 100 people died, all trying to leave though the one door they came in from. Many of these people went right past other exits only to die at the one door they knew.

Its not hard to out think the masses, but the time to do it is BEFORE.

Yeah, I agree. People program themselves to do things a certain way every time and in a panic, they will always go in the direction they remember as being safe.

Having your routes planned out well in advance and even driving them several times at different times of day and night so that you know exactly what to expect traffic wise, what's available as far as natural and man made resources and knowing what possible hazzards are between you and your expected destination are all important. Keeping an ear on a scanner that's tuned to local Emergency Services like sheriff, EMS and fire would be a good idea too. Keeping up on stuff like not letting your vehicle get below 3/4 tank and having spare parts and fluids on board as well as having the main portion of your kit on board are a good idea too.
