Bugout took trip in washing machine… advice?

I’ll preface with saying I’ve never taken apart my Bugout for fear of messing something up or voiding warranty…

That said, it just took a run through the washing machine clipped to my jeans pocket. Realized it when I heard the dryer knocking.

The blade was a little loose, so I tightened the pivot screw and that fixed it. Seems dry but I hit it with some compressed air to be safe.

So at this point, anything I need to do or look out for? Is it worth dropping some oil in the pivot? I don’t have Blue oil but I do have Lucas Oil I use for my gun cleaning.

Thanks for any help!

As long as the scales didn’t get warped you’re fine. I’d rinse the pivot thoroughly with water, then blow dry it from a distance or blow it out with a compressor, then oil it with any decent lube. Your Lucas oil is fine.

I have a Bugout that has been dipped in many lakes and streams and even a hot spring or two. Not quite a trip through a washing machine but similar, and never an issue.

If it were me I'd crack it open and lube it then rock on.

Same thing happened to my leatherman. I thought I'd thoroughly dried it, but a few weeks later small rust spot started appearing. I attributed that, rightly or wrongly, to the caustic properties of the soap plus water. So I used windex to clean it, rinsed it off in warm water, then sprayed it liberally with WD40(a very good water displacer). Seems to have done the trick.
If it was my own bugout, I'd disassemble it, rinse it, douse the metal parts in WD 40, wipe it and reassemble it.

Today's free advice. Check your pockets before putting pants in the laundry.
I hear ya on that. about 90% of my pants have 8 pockets, and sometimes the small knives are just too light to make a noticeable difference.
I know right away when I have one of my framelocks still clipped on to them though. :D

I’ve definitely sent an Endura into the wash cycle before. A drop or two of 3&1 oil and back to business.

I had an ex-boss say he would never carry expensive knives because his Spyderco Tenacious had been through the wash multiple times lol. You should be fine, but hey having that warranty handy gives peace of mind I bet. Just don't mention that it went into the laundry when you send it 😉

might wanna check the tightness of the body & clip screws, they might’ve loosened up a bit. other than that it should be fine
