My first Spyderco was the original Manix 2 with the black g10 scales and the saber-grind s30v blade. LOVED the knife. Still do. The heft and heavy duty construction with over the top jumping and forward finger coil make this knife extraordinarily functional. Plus, the ergo are spot-on. Fits my hand like a glove.

But I came to dislike the saber grind, so I was off to explore the PM2. Bought 3 copies, the first of which was definitely the best (my camo satin version). The other two I have purchased have been quirky to say the least--poor detent (replaced by spyderco), sticky opening, off center blades, etc. I do think quality suffered during their expansion.

Well, I was at the local Sportsman's Warehouse the other day, and saw the Manix 2 with a FFG satin finished blade!!! I've been away from this forum a while, so I didn't know this knife existed. Snapped it up IMMEDIATELY. WOW! I think this knife is far superior in quality to the PM2. Over engineered for heavy use--that's what I like.Heavy? Yes--don't care. Pocket hog? Yes--don't care. Lockup? Ball lock is toss-up with compression lock, AFAIC. The knife is perfect (for me) in every way, where the PM2 falls short.

As an aside, the aforementioned retailer had a display full of Benchmade automatics--out the fronts and side openers. Had never seen them there before. As it turns out, Tennessee LIFTED ITS BAN on automatic knives and blade lengths. ANY citizen can CARRY ANY KNIFE they want in our great state!

Any chance at Spyderco autos?!?

The only auto Spyderco is currently set to make is the Autonomy, sadly the rest were discontinued. Luckily, I have a few that I am not willing to part with. :D

It would be nice if they made a comeback. I'd like to see the Embassy with Cruwear. It's just like a smaller Manix with a sheepsfoot style blade really.

I too have become a Manix 2 fan after an initial foray into the Spyderco world with the purchase of a Persistence and then a Caly 3.5 that I traded for my Manix. You, my friend, have committed a mortal sin here by replacing the reverend PM 2 with any blade and then openly speaking against it. Lol. All kidding aside, you are the first person I have ever heard on this forum to shun the PM 2 for the Manix. I have seen, time after time on this forum, posts lifting the PM 2 to stellar heights. It has become my next conquest, but now, wait, a chink in its armor? I would like to here more from you as you are the first to step away from the mighty PM 2 for a different offering. I am intrigued by what might come next from you on this subject. You are a rebel, a fresh voice, nay a conspirator amongst the faithful. Lol. Let's here more my friend!

Well, I'm certainly not the first by a longshot. There are MANY, MANY of us who prefer the Manix 2 over the PM2 who have expressed their preference on these (and other) forums.

In my mind, the Manix 2 is FAR closer to perfect than the PM2 is. For my purposes, that is.

To each, their own... as always. I prefer the PM2/Military over the Manix2/Manix2 XL, primarily because of the locks and the closed profile. But, that's why I love Spyderco. There's something for everyone.

There's no PM2 in CruWear, so the Manix will see more time for me in the immediate future...as good as CTS 204P is (I'll be up to 35 Spydercos I think when I get home to open my CruWear Manix and Blue Nishijin Spin), but I do carry and use all of them and the PM2 will likely be my second most carried. Sometimes I carry two if I'll be doing lots of cutting, especially if cutting lots of abrasive material.

As many of you have expressed, I am on the fence as well.

One definitive difference, the CL vs. BBL is that it may come an issue for unlocking it ambidextrously. Meaning Compression lock "unlocks" in one direction and Ball Baring Lock does not. It's small thing, but enough for me to say BBL has upper hand despite initial "getting used to" the lock system.

The axis lock was something I really liked. The BBL feels so much more solid than the axis lock. Then again my experience with the axis lock could be slightly skewed by only having experienced Griptilians.

I too left my pm2 for a Manix lightweight for a little while. I prefer the blade shape of the manix but prefer the compression over the ball lock. Recently I went back to the PM2 and it feels better in my pocket. The manix is just so much wider while closed. I briefly went to the xl but it felt like a cell phone in my pocket :) either way, Both are awesome!
