I had so much fun building and then riding my carbon fiber road bike I thought I would do something with the frame from the parts bike I used. Here's what I came up with.

So what are you going to do with the frame you got those parts off of? ;)

Sweet looking bike. Compared to the stealth look of the carbon fiber frame you built up, this one is practically jumping off the screen at me. What brand bike was it?

The weight-weenies are working very hard at building a one-spoke wheel, but they are having problems with getting the right tension....

Pretty nice bike! I'm still looking for "bits" for my vintage Cilo, a nice 105 or Ultegra crank, and likewise a set of brakes. I just got a pair of 105 toe-clip pedals which will look very good, but they need rebuilding.

The original bike was a mail order bike called a Motobecane Le Champion. It uses the same 3 lb. aluminum frame as the Fuji Team SL. I took about half the parts from it to make the carbon fiber bike and sold the rest. I had the frame left over and had bought the Campagnolo Vento wheels you see for my old Bianchi. I couldn't stand seeing an empty frame laying around so I stripped it and took it to the auto body shop for the paint job you see. I figured with a black carbon fork and yellow striped tires, the black to yellow fade was a natural. The Bianchi went back to its old original wheels.

The rest of the bike is mostly Italian - Campagnolo Chorus shifters, RD, brakes. Campagnolo Centaur cranks and FD. Record bottom bracket. Cinelli bar, Ritchey stem, PZ Racing seat post and Selle San Marco saddle. It weighs in at 18 1/2 lbs with the pedals but without the seat bag. I've only taken a short test ride of 8 miles and I made some adjustments based on that earlier this evening. Tomorrow it will get a good shakedown ride. So far so good.
