Hello and greetings!

I've got a stupid question for any one who wants to comment.

I want a full size multi-tool that I can take through ANY airport ! I am considering going to the Geber Site and doing the bulid your own multi-tool. It will have a saw, screwdrivers, scissors, a file, a can opener, BUT NO KNIFE BLADE! Would this tool pass through ANY airport? Some people here have been stopped with regular multi-tools and even micras!

But with no knife blade how can you lose? Let me know what you think and take care!

The Carbide Saw? If you ran it over your hand quickly, you could not cut yourself!

Once I went to the airport with a utility knife in my pocket. It has retractable 1" blades. They made me take it apart and give them all of the blades.

Let me chime in hear for a second fellas'.

I've never tried going through airport security with a knife on me (yet) but I have had a strange encounter non the less.

When I was a youngster (about 21-ish) I went to Lubbock, TX airport to pick up a friend. When I went through the security check I set off the metal detector alarm. They asked me to empty my pockets. I did. Then all hell broke loose. They started freaking out because I had a 7.62mm (empty load...of coarse) shell on my keyring. Now I know that it could be still considered ammo and should maybe warrant further investigation, but damn, these people were all bent out of shape. I had to explain that I had bought this in England as an already made keychain and that it had been around the world through all kinds of super-tight airport security checks and I had no prior problems. Hell, the firing pin was removed!!!

The point of the story is??.......
If that sort of thing can cause a problem for 'ya, I'm sure that a knife (or saw) can too!

I think I'm one of the few people that actually haven't had much of a problem with airports. I usually carry an SAK or a Gerber multi tool. plus my plain edge native (cutting edge less then 3"). I check everything else. I clip the Native in the bottle pocket of my pack so that it's sideways when in the x-ray and doesn't really profile much as a knife, and I stash all metal including the Gerber in the pack itself. Never had a problem. Mind you most of this is from domestic flights.

Scary story though, I once had some my collection with me with a bunch of throwers, one cheap 7" dagger, and about five folders. I forgot to check them in. They went through my back, taking all of them out and then stopped when they got to my personal alarm, asked what it was, got a security agent down to verify it wasn't a bomb, and gave it back. They then confiscated my kitchen matches. Put all of my knives back in the bag and let me through. Now I'm a firm believer of allowing some knives through the airport, but come on, that was just ridiculous. Thank god these people are keeping my flight safe, huh?
