Build Time

I overheard the following conversation at Blade last weekend-

Hinderer new guy: "So how long does it take yall to make one of these here XM deals"
Rob: "We put a good forty hour work week into each one, the customs take even longer"
Hinderer new guy: "Dang mang, I ain't even spent that much time with my wife or either of her sisters"
Rob: "If your wife or her sisters looked as good as a new XM-18 you wouldn't mind"

I quickly did the math in my head and realized that Rick and the boys are making around $3.00 an hour after you figure in their overhead. Poor guys. Next round is on my guys.

Can I just ask, sorry if I'm hijacking your thread OP, but is Rick pretty busy? I sent him an email a couple of days ago about the EMT/military/LEO exception as was just wondering when he would reply. No rush, as I'm sure Rick's really busy filling the massive backlog.

Nice story, but that's all it is :) and a good joke.
40 hours would be impossible to do commercially for the price he's charging.

Maybe a workweek to finish a couple of those, where they work with batches of knives, but certainly not one knife (at least I hope not for them).

Wow- even longer than I suspected! Thanks for the humor Rick. My earlier post was just for fun (I guess I may need to clarify as some people don't get my sarcasm).

In all seriousness guys- all it takes is a minute handling a Hinderer and you will know that the Hinderer guys don't rush the building process. Amazing craftsmanship.

parts are almost certainly made in batches then assembled.

so, perhaps a few days making the blanks for the blades, a few fabricating hardware, a few making the scales, etc. once each set of parts is complete, assembly and finishing begins.
