It's not clear just what he put into the knife, aside from the corkscrew, probably the awl, and (presumably) a main blade.

If that was in the US and my girlfriend surprised me with that, I probably end up proposing to her right there on the spot. That is just pure awesome :)

I like the idea but it seems to be saying -you buy the box then arrange a time to go to Switzerland to the factory and put it together? be cheaper for me
to buy a one of every type ever , already made, with the airfare.

I'd like to build one of the alox Soldier knives except except with an electrician blade in place of the awl... and one with 1095 steel.

It would be fun to have all that knife making equipment and parts at home!

exactly, it's a cute idea, but what they need is a more buffet-style approach - if they had a greater variety of tools, so that I could build my own franken-SAK, that would be cool.

I was recently perusing a very large mall near my home while out celebrating my daughter's birthday. Much to my surprise they had a Victorinox store, so I just had to run in and take a look (I was looking for an Alox Farmer). I noticed that they had a build your own knife center in the store. One of the clerks noticed I was looking at it, and told me it was the only place this side of the pond that you can get a custom SAK. It was set up like a buffet, and I was under the impression that you picked everything out then they would build it for you. I don't know for sure because I couldn't spend much time talking with anyone- had to get my daughter to dinner. I have been meaning to go back and check it out, I just have to talk myself into going back to the mall (far from my favorite place!).

So do they take orders? What's their phone number? E-mail? Collectively, I'll bet the Gang of BF can boost that shop's business right into the stratosphere. Even a short browsing of BF reveals that many a customized SAK would be born if only we had access to...

Hmmm. I wonder if Victorinox has looked at Buck's custom shop and is dipping a toe into the waters?

I don't know if I can post that info, don't want to step on anybodies toes! This is a Victorinox store in one of the largest malls in the world. The Mall is Of huge proportions, at least for America. The phone and email should be easy enough to find, if you are still having problems, let me know!

At a particular knife store in TN during their manufacturer's days, Vic was providing the materials to build a knife as long as you purchased one of their other knives. It was fun, but there were no options other than red or black scales. I added it to the pile.

I would love to be able to design my own SAK. NO CORKSCREWS! Large sissors. Large clip point blade (I don't like spearpoint blades, the tip isn't as useful). Only one blade; I don't see the point of two blades. An awl, flat and phillips head, and bottle opener (no can opener). Red alox handles.

off topic: surely not where the legendary mall ninja keeps the peace? ;)
on topic: making yourself a scientist or yeoman would be cool, or one of my favourites, the trailguide.
