Building a kit around a knife... I got the sickness

Well, I've got this romantic idea of some sort of worst case, long term survival scenario in which hostile evacuation comes into play. I've got six bug out bags set up (in various states of completion) with individual focuses, such as Hunting/trapping, Horticulture/gathering, first aid/hygeine, food prep and storage, etc-in addition to typical basic personal sized survival gear. Since buying this Howling Rat, I've realized I already have assigned blades to all these kits, and really don't have a place for it.

So instead of just throwing it in the pile of users, like most people, the plan is to build yet another bugout kit around the damn thing. This is to be a semi-budget pointman kit- for group defense in case of hostile evac, on-the-fly navigation, and bushwacking/trail blazing/trail clearance, and patrol.

MolleII bag-60 bucks
3 liter hydration bladder-20 bucks
Eberlestock Sidescabbard-40 bucks
Cold Steel Trench Hawk-40 bucks
14 inch Tramontina-6 bucks
Swamp Rat Howling Rat-128 bucks
Map pouch and Suunto M2 compass-25 bucks
12x14 tarp for tent
MSS sleeping bag-free
Gerber Diesel-free
CRKT Lightfoot-30 bucks
Steiner Predator binoculars
Nitralon G2 flashlight
Possibly the Mammut climbing rope in the bottom of my closet (for fording rivers or as a guideline for crossing tough terrain)

That's where I'm at so far... this really is a sickness.

It looks very complete! Question: what is the completed weight and do you find the Molle Pack straps/waist belt sufficient to support it?

It's not built yet, this is just a shopping list-half of it I already have, but the MOLLEII can support a crapload of weight. At 3000 cubic inches it should be big enough to pack this gear in addition to personal stuff-clothes, hygeine, basic survival supplies etc.

Sounds good! I only questioned because packs lacking a *good* hip belt wear me out when heavily loaded. I have to be cautious about overloading day packs / patrol packs that utilize only shoulder straps.

I have never had a problem with the hip belt-duct taped the moose poop out of it and it was good to go. If it's that big of a deal it'll be worth dropping the extra 20 bucks on an aftermarket one...
