Have any of you all bought and put together a Rough Ryder custom shop pocket knife? They make them in a lockback, trapper, stockman and others I think. I just got mine and put it together today. I got the trapper version
I did the lockback a few years ago great fun..Buck 110 lookalike.
Basic tools only....wa5ch the bolsters...one of mine fell off. Silver soldered back on.
I didnt like the "wood" handles..so made new ones out of spotted gum...
I have the stockman kit around here somewhere. Bought it a couple years ago thinking my youngest and I would build it. She discovered boys before we got around to it so maybe the grandkids and I will do it.
Modoc ED
is right...non bfdealer link...I would have thought bf the perfect place to for them...but generally speaking
there are some knife kits that are pricey and some that much lower in price...which afaic means only one thing.......Im surprised Ive never heard of that mob.
I wish the OP would have returned with pics. It's well documented that Imgur makes it almost dummy proof for non-paying members to post unlimited pics. I've seen a few RR kit builds by members in the past. But would really like to see pics and hear build stories by a wide range of skill levels.
I guess what I'm saying is, my personal skill level is somewhere in the double to tripple digit NEGATIVE range....not to brag or anything. So upon receiving my RR kits, in their very rough state, with absolutely no documentation or instructions.....let's just say I was (am still) very intimidated. Especially having never built, or even disassembled, a traditional knife. Sure, I've fashioned and shapped a few on-lay type scales, screwed into place. But these kits require just a "bit" more skill level. I applaud all who even try. Therefore I [strike]applaud [/strike]myself, wait, scratch that.... I'm appalled at myself for not even trying yet.
Here is a few I built, the Buck110-a-like & a couple of the multi blade kits built up as single blades.
I used some Briar wood instead of the supplied scales & had to use brass rod for a couple of the pivots after trying chasing perfection too much on the opening & closing & needing oversize pins.
Highly recommended, you'll learn more tackling one of these kits than all the reading you could ever do.
I found my kits. Note that the back lock is not in any state of assembly. It's merely stacked together with pins hand set just to hold it together for pics.
