With the aid of my refractories buddy I'm building a mini-forge and recently aquired a tiger torch but there is no hose , regulator or ball valve. Can anyone give me some info on this stuff so I know what to get. My mini forge is made from some kind of refractory material. I don't know exactly what the name of it is but I work in a steel making plant and know it will be fine for the job. We used a 5 gallon plastic pail and packed in the refractory around a 6" pipe in the center. Removed the pipe and filled a little more in the bottom(2")...cooked it and then melted off the bucket. I drilled out a hole big enough for my tiger torch. I just want to let it sit in there like in the pic so I can use it for other things if need be. Any advice would be appreciated. I'm also going to buy some blanket to line the inside so I can preserve the life of the refractory a bit. I'm also thinking of making an extension piece of 4-6". I may have to move the hole though and fill in the other if that's the case though.

You can get the plumbing for your torch at the gas supplier, or ellison refratory probably has what you need.

I wouldn't recomend letting the end of the torch rest in the shell. You'll at least get some backfire and at worst melt the end of your torch. USe an ir gap to set up the torch.

I'd also wrap the shell with some wire. Just in case it gets banged around and decides to split.

I just started trying to make knives and i just built a mini forge for under 150.00 (including regulator and 10' hose) using top quality parts and some free junk. its not much to look at and a little small but it gets up to welding heat.try some of these links for good advice, parts and sources.I put alot of thought into building my forge (what was i thinking) :o just for the reason that i'm getting to not be so young any more and i hate stuff that needs constant attention......like my 'ol lady :foot: http://www.frontiernet.net/~gnreil/index.shtml

Thanks guys,
I got er up and running. I only have a 3" diameter hole in my forge but this ones temporary anyway. I have another with a 6" steel tube that is being welded up for me by my father in law.
