I know I do but I was wondering how many of you use your hand as a strop? Finances being what they are and also being hesitant about picking another OCD trait I found that it works quite well. So how many of you do use your hand?

I've used it... but honestly, its effect seems to be just as much placebo as actual utility.

Think about it: if your skin helps the edge, that means that the edge is susceptible to being changed really easily. Probably along the lines of a burr/wire edge, heavily fatigued edge, or super-soft steel, none of which are any good for actual cutting.

I have used it on 440C and VG10 not really soft steels and noticed a definite improvement. I am saying in no way that it can duplicate a real strop with strop compound. I was just saying it can do a fair job in straightening the edge. Much like stropping on cardboard.

After all the knicks I've put into leather strops, I'm hesitant to use my palm.

I just use my jeans leg.

I have also been know to carry a strip of pigskin for use as a strop, it's lighter and thinner and teh rough side works very well.

I used my jeans to strop also and probably works a little better than my hand. So far I've never cut my hand though.
