Bull Locks

I've never held a bull lock knife, so I have a few questions:
1) How does the lock work. From appearance, it looks as if it would automatically engage on opening & release with a forward press of the thumb. Is that correct?

2) Situated behind the bolster and on the spine, does the release get in the way?

3) What are your experiences & opinions with this style?

I'm fairly new to collecting traditionals so anything you could tell me would be appreciated.

Seconded; I don't know anything about bull locks, but I've been really curious about them for a while.

The blade locks automatically when opened, it release when you push the lever forward. What the lever does is lift the spring up allowing the blade to close. See below pics:

I never felt like the lock gets in the way, partly because the knife is big and there is plenty of room to hold the knife.

I really liked the knife but it was a tad too big for me to carry. Just too much knife for my liking. If you like bigger knives then you will not be disappointed, it's a beauty of a knife.

Thanks for the info & pics. That was helpful.

Another question:
I know some GEC lockbacks can come with up & down rattle. Is the same generally true with these GEC bull locks?

I have a knife just as pictured. I ground a radius on the lower corner of the lever so I can get my thumb under it with the same hand gripping it.
It's too large for pocket carry, but I love that beautiful grizzly cut bone.

So it's a good "TV Knive" :)

Oh man, I do not Need another #23.

But those pics...

...and I'm weak when it comes to certain temptations.

The ones I have are rock solid in lock-up. No play whatsoever. I actually find the release makes a great thumb rest in use. Cool knives.

Just ordered a Northfield #23 Bull Lock in yellow bone. Think I got a good price on her @ $70 including shipping. Since she's 4 1/2" closed I ordered a belt sheath as well.

I'll post my opinions on the lock after a few weeks of carrying and cutting.

Thanks again.
