I just bought this really sweet bulldog slip jont. Its a stockman with a pearl handle, has 2000 emblem on the handle. I bought it for $ 50. on e bay last week.
I tried "fine tuning " it on my sharpmaker It never really seemed to sharpen the way I wanted it. I got it sharp, but not hair popping sharp.
Now I can usually get knives to just pop hair off my arms. This one just never seemed to "do it"
Even with paper, it didnt seem to slice as well as my other knives like spyderco, or kershaw double cross.
My question ... has anyone else had the same experience,
What are your general opinions on Bulldog knives ?
What is this "hammered steel " is it carbon or SS ?
and any other comments you guys and gals want to make about Bulldog knives.
Thanks Jack

I have no experience with them. But have heard the hard to sharpen complaint before. It could be that they're mainly "look at knives" instead of "using knives."

I have a few Bulldogs that I can get razor sharp by using a Lansky to get the profile I want and then strop on a leather belt. No problem.

Go to "Knife Reviews and Testing", type "Bulldog" into the search window, you'll get at least a handfull of opinions. My quick look lead me to believe that the steel is 1095 tool steel, or thereabouts. Also, concensus seems to be that you can get an "OK" edge, but not great. But have a look around for yourself.
