Everyone needs a large, bullet-resistant shield, so I decided to make my own. :)

There are not pictures of every step, because I was too damn busy making it. ;)

But the pictures do tell a story...

This was the test plate I shot with a whole bunch of bullets:

The main steel stops single shots of 9mm full metal jacket, but a second shot in the exact same spot (shooting the dent) will penetrate.
But that's what the extra plates on the back are for. ;)

The main plate can be shot with .38 slugs and 00 buckshot all day with no penetration though.

The polycarbonate stops a full-power .38 slug with double layers, I found out yesterday.
(a test piece...didn't shoot-up my shield).

The two Zero Tolerance knives in the one picture got a LOT of use in shaping the handles, and some other shield building tasks.

The major warps in the plate are from 12 gauge 00 buck fired from 1.5 feet away.
Still no penetration though. :)

Outstanding, Stabman! The shield is a very relevant piece of armor, imo.

At first I thought I was in the "for sale" section. I was just signing on to PayPal...

That's the coolest project t I've seen in a long time. Planning on robbing a bank soon?

Thank you. :)

They have remained relevant, as getting shot by bullets sucks as much as being stuck with arrows and spears.

I was looking at ballistic shields used by SWAT, and they weigh about the same as mine.
They are more bullet resist overall (although mine has spots that would be more so), but they cost a whole huge chunk of cash.

I succeeded in the most challenging part of it all though...making it look cool enough that my wife doesn't mind it being in the living room. :D

It would really impede the getaway part of it. ;)
That extra 35.8 pounds wouldn't help running speed.

That's wicked cool!

I believe Tech Support is where you have to post to change your name from Stabman to Shieldman.:D
