Looking for opinions on the toughest little knife. Say, with a 2 to 2 1/2" blade.

Handle type and locking mechanism doesn't really matter, but must have good steel and be a folder.

I understand there will be limitations on "toughness" based on the size of the knife, but I am wondering what you all would consider the ultimate pocket knife if that is all you could carry with you out into the wild, so to speak.

Thanks!

Joe

Give a good look to the Spyderco Salsa. The ones I've handled have been pretty stout and the blade length is what you want.

STR......thanks for the suggestion.....I will take a look at it. Spyderco does turn out some nice knives.

After re-reading my post I guess maybe I should have mentioned that I was meaning a knife currently in production, not if you were to build one to your specs. Thanks!

If you don't mind going to a 2 7/8" blade check out the Chris Reeve small Sebenza. Is $300-350 out of your price range?

Umfaan from CRK. It's a real jewel of a small knife. I'm glad I picked one up while I could. They don't make them anymore.

Strider PT. A little bit of a bigger blade, but still tiny and a bull of a knife.

I like everything about that new Buck 55 except for one thing. 420HC steel blade. Just horrible steel IMO. That is fine if they are going to run those but I'd like to see Buck run a limited production of them with 154CM or hey S30V now there is an idea Chuck Buck. A premium USA steel in a premium USA made knife. What a concept.

Buck 55 and 503 are both great little knives and relatively inexpensive. They go great with a William Henry leather clip case.

Also check out the Salsa, Dodo, Rollock, Scallion, and some of the California legal (2") automatics.

I've never felt "under-knifed" with a Victorinox SAK. ;)

I'll second that!

The pioneer series saks are about as bomb proof a pocket knife you can get, but no lock. If the Swiss Army can do with out a lock then I can.

Thanks guys!!

I appreciate all the great responses to my post. Gave me a lot of ideas to consider. Maybe my wife will just let me get one of each so I won't have to decide on just one for the time being. :)
