the back 20 acres have been left "wild" so far
and there are numerous wild edibles and medicinals to be found there. my niece is an avid student of wild foods and herbs. we went for a short walk and found a few things. these are just a couple
lots of wild blackberries back there, tho we only got about a quart of ripe ones

theres a small wetland area at the very back. the cattails were not only seeding out(good fire making material) but lots of new shoots too

ok now for the subject header. karina and i nearly walked on this guy. he quickly slid into a hole, started to come out after a few minutes. then i think he smelled the dog, as he quickly dropped back into the hole. at that point we let him be. he was a good 6' +. beautiful beast

I agree beautiful animal and also think it would make some nice decoration with that skin.
Filberts are great we have to get them early before the squirrels do.I would imagine he may have a problem with them at some point.
Great jelly potential in those grapes
Cattail is a useful plant when you look into it
Thanks

That is pretty neat. I have always been intrigued by snakes. (Except rattle snakes.. hate them) Thanks for the pics.

awesome pics! I hate the cold weather making all my scaly friends go away.
