I was cleaning a pig this morning and when I got done I found this.

I have no idea of when it happened. It was just there. Now comes the hard part. Would this be warranty? If it is I still have to decide weather to send it in or not. The knife is an earlier stamped version. I may just grind it down and make a dramatic DP.

thoughts? thanks, Pete

a mod would look like this.

On the bright side we're having wild pork and venison stew in a few hours...

Pete,

This is what the Warranty is for! You can send it back to Buck or contact Cabela's, both company's take their Warranty seriously. If I were you I'd send it back the old stamp to new stamp make no difference it's all the same S30V and DLT coating.

A few of you may remember a factory buildout 191-BO5 from last year using 2009 blades. My recollection is that the blades missed having the zipper ground before the handles were attached and it couldn't be done afterward so they just zipped the zipper off... ;o). I have one somewhere in my collection but here is the stock photo that I had saved.

Yours looks better than my tape mod!

Warranty has never been a concern for me. I got my first Buck in about 1974 and bought my first in '78. In all the years I've broke a few and never sent one in because I broke the knife. This one I'm not sure how it broke but I still might not send it in. The blade is completely DLC covered but it could be taken apart and the whole blade back sanded to match the new grind. Like the new DLC 110's.

I'm thinking no way I'm going to find the other piece.

On a side note both my buck and this pig had bullets from other people in them. The buck had a .22 bullet under the hide in his butt and the pig had a looks to be .30 caliber bullet in his shoulder. Both had no recent wounds. Since I haven't shot a animal in 10+ years I know they're not mine. I thought I was done with poachers.
