I was going to post something new and interesting but some guy talked me into taking photos in RAW format and my computer has been converting to .jpg for about three hours :grumpy: Check back in 2012.

Soooo how about some ASH

HHAHAAHAHA I did RAW once....once. It damn near shut my POS computer down.

I have that hollow tube smooth slab SHSHII now:D:thumbup::thumbup:

And I'll get your little dog too....(wicked witch of the west voice) and hopefully your SHBMLE!!!:D:D

Remind me to tell you the story about drinking Bodington's with two English carpenters from Manchester.

On second thought, nevermind...

I don't remember any of it. :o

Come on guys! Didn't your father ever teach you to use the right tool for the job? ;)

Photoshop Lightroom, which I have been using for well over a year, seemlessly and quickly (part of my interpretation of "seemless" here), handles RAW format. See: http://www.adobe.com/products/photoshoplightroom/

Although we offer bundle deals with Photoshop CS3, you do not need it to use Lightroom effectively. My own use of Photoshop CS3 has trickled off to near-zero since using Lightroom. Unless, of course, you want to help to ensure that I'll get my next quarterly bonus, then by all means buy both.:thumbup:

I am all set for my next quarterly bonus, to be paid in two weeks, but this will help me with the subsequent one. :D

Back to being potentially helpful, the D300 have settings for RAW format, such as the bit depth (12- and 16-bit, if memory serves) and compression. If you plan to do a lot of cropping, then I would suggest 16-bit, otherwise 12-bit is a good compromise between storage space (if that is a concern) and quality. I use 12-bit with compression.

I love lightroom, my demo version ran out a while back and I just haven't had the spare cash to buy a copy yet. Still, raws do take some cpu power, I wouldn't want to work with them on a Pentium II. My overclocked dual core athlon64 is barely fast enough for large image processing.

Now I see why I stick with my 35mm Nikon's and Mamiya 645. Been doing wedding's, prom's, team sport's, etc.. for 25 years but don't know a darn thing about Digi's. I've lost plenty of buisness because of, but was getting burned out anyway.

I don't even know what you mean by RAW, much less what all lunde's talking about:confused:

I grab my wife or Daughter's cheap Digi if I need a knife pic, and as you can tell, they suck. I even had to ask someone here how to post a pic:o
Yeah, I'm a DA when it come's to PC's, and it is embarrassing at times.

Oh, sorry to ramble...as usual, Awesome knives Tony:thumbup:

And great pics! Are they going to look any better RAW:confused:

RAW is an uncompressed file format, as opposed to a compressed JPG which loses some detail and color information for the sake of smaller files and easy viewing. Think of RAW as digital's version of a super-high quality film negative.

Thanks, Kinda like a 25 or 64 kodachrome, or any good 100 to 160 ASA vs 400 or higher I guess.

But I'll never understand all this digi stuff, and that may be a good thing since I can't afford all new equipment anyway.

yoda4561, you wrote:

Wait until Version 2.0 is out before you buy Lightroom. ;)

.

I have two licenses for Photoshop CS3 and one for the entire CS3 suite. I hope that helps cuz I had to go with Aperture so I make MY bonus. ;):D
