Bummer...

Sometime yesterday evening while I was out, my Benchmade Griptillian escaped my pockets due to forces unknown. This was my favorite (and only decent) EDC folder. I will probably never replace it since I can get a full sized Becker for the price of this one folder. It had the sharpest damn hollow ground blade ever. It will be missed.

So now I am extremely bummed out, and will need to get something else to replace it. I haven't gotten folders in some time, and a lot of them I traded off, gifted, or destroyed.

Double suck because I already have hot items in the queue awaiting paychecks that I need to finish my "perfect kit". I don't really NEED another knife, but a good one handed opener is invaluable. I've had this one for 5 years...probably the longest running knife ever for me.

What to do...what to do...?

I have a hunch someone will suggest a Becker. ha

What size and features are you looking for?

That CS American Lawman has been making the rounds as a suggested knife here recently, and for the price, you won't be hurtin too bad.

That sucks about the griptillian...

You should give a Kershaw Skyline a go...nicest $30 knife I've ever had

Have you checked in, around, and under your vehicle seats soundly? In the past, when I've lost a knife, that's been a surefire place where it might turn up.

I have a Buck Vantage.... Never been disappointed... won't set you back budgetwise

4-5 friends of mine, upon saying they lost something, found said item in the car, usually on the front passenger side between the seat, and the door. things have a way of migrating there.

so, what to do? look for it. high and low. do not gracefully accept loss :)

I just got one, and I love it.:

Dude, those griptillians are awesome. get another one. It's hard to justify it if your comparing it to a full size fixed blade for the same price but they are worth the price.

Having a hard time getting the Kabar Dozier phat bob out of my head. Nothing but good feedback on those. CS AK47 gets a lot of love too, and I am considering that as well as I have very large hands. Of course Kabar also had a tasty looking JAB folder at Blade... damn. I need more money and more arms.

I broke out the Cold Steel Black Rock Hunter from backup duty till I find something else. I just loved that 154CM blade. Also resharpened the Necker and put a good cord wrap on it and figured out how to tighten the TDI clip.

One tip I figured out....when you do a cord wrap, heat up a pencil type solder iron, and when you are done quickly run that tip in between the cords...it seals them together but very subtle. Really solidifies the grip.

Buck Vantage Pro - large. S30V blade, G10 handles, Buck warr., Bos heat treat ... all for under $60 ? Absolute steal.

My EDC for about a year now.

the BK10 when it comes out, just get bigger pockets.

I carry a SAK, I find them to be great EDC.

That was one of them on my list as well, but ended up getting the CS Lawman.

It's crazy how consistently loved the CS Lawman and AK47 are. Sadly I'll probably go for the Phat Bob instead because it won't scare people and I might be able to get away with EDCing it, even though the CS knives sound to be better hard-use tools.

The thing I dont like about Cold Steels is the coatings they are compelled put on their blades. All coatings=Bad! I mangled a Rajah II in ways I normally wouldn't except for the fact that the scratches on the coating bugged me. Plus, I really prefer carbon steel, especially the 1095 Crovan. Folders are the only time I put up with stainless. One of the things I loved about that Griptilian is there was no coating on the blade.

I'll probably just get a mid-range Kershaw for a one-hand opening folder. Dont use folders in the field or for anything heavy. Amazon has the ZK Kharon for $24...and it's already a bright color for the next time I lose it. Would get a JAB folder except they both have curved blades which make them hard to sharpen.

BTW...That discontinued Cold Steel Black Rock Hunter aint a bad knife! It's got a 4" hollow grind, with no coating. You just can't open it one handed.

I really liked my Benchmade VEX, it held up to all kinds of abuse and misuse. But now I just carry a Leatherman Wave, much more useful than a plain old knife, and I can still open the blade (PE or SE) one handed.

Get another grip man. your used to it anyways. It's just like when a family pet dies, get another as a replacement.

Just wanted to publicly thank cop911 for sending me his old Griptilian. It's older, 440C instead of 154CM...but dangit I dont care! Still cool as heck to be given that. It's been annoying without a good one handed opening user lately. I polished it up, oiled it, sharpened it, adjusted the clip, and it has been given new life. Thanks so much!

I am curious though about the extra hole in the middle of the grip that the newer one doesn't have. Wondering what it is for?
