bumped thread not showing in forum?

That's strange...I have always seen the order of postings being the most recent post. Do you know what might have changed?

Next time I went to the forum it did the same thing. Why does it show the most recent postings but doesn't show mine? Is this happening when other people see the forum? This is the first time I've ever experienced this when trying to sell something.

What changed was the forum defaults.

SparkNotes version (no pun intended)
Abuse of various loopholes in the rules for The Exchange was getting out of hand, so Spark revised the rules on October 30th. This new set of rules was very oppressive and went ignored by a significant portion of the community, be it because they never noticed the change, or chose not to follow them because infractions were few and far between.

That changed last week when there was a crackdown on infractions. Many people woke up to find a points-hit waiting for them for very menial offenses. New threads were posted in each subforum of The Exchange to hopefully increase awareness of the new rules.

After getting involved in a discussion on one of these newly posted threads, I came up with a way to solve a lot of the problems with the new rules. It involved changing the default sort order of the forums in The Exchange from 'by Last Post' to 'by Thread Created Date.' After fully explaining the idea in several "wall of text" posts, Spark loved the idea and decided it was worth implementing, if only to test out in trial. That brings us to the present.

...please don't hurt me. :p

You can familiarize yourself with the newest set of rules at:

It may seem a little confusing at first, but it's a much cleaner system more akin to the likes of eBay and Craigslist.
The chaotic nature of The Exchange has been greatly reduced in such a way that grants equal exposure for each and every thread posted.

That sucks.

I've followed the new rules, even waited about a week before bumping the thread which would mean that under the new default I'd be on about page 100???

Is there a certain time frame where you can delete your old post if it has not sold and repost something new?

Depends... how old is the thread and in what subforum of The Exchange is it in?

The "fastest" of these subforums is usually the 'For Sale by Individual: Production' forum. In there, you can expect a thread to be bumped back one page per day. Most of the other subforums move a heck of a lot slower than that, though.

Users are not able to delete their own threads; however, yes, reposting is allowed. The current rule has been tentatively set for two weeks from your initial post date. Keep in mind this is still a trial and these numbers are subject to change, undoubtedly for the better, should Spark and the mod-staff decide that two weeks is indeed too long.

What all of this boils down to is that, when you post a new ad, you will enjoy a much longer period of exposure on page-one. If your item is desirable and priced right, you should find a buyer much quicker than before.

Bumping was a plague. It existed because it was a necessary evil to combat bumping that occurred naturally with the discussion format. There are so, so many benefits to the new system and so few drawbacks (in my, perhaps a bit biased, opinion. :p)

Ya.. I like the 3 day rule better. Now the fact that my items will only appear on the 1st. page for just a brief period of time and then fall into the depths of unknown for no one to find is not reassuring. Not too fond of the new rules.. but hey it's not my forum and I don't make the rules so you gotta follow what is there. Doesn't mean that I agree with them, but so be it.

There have been quite a few changes lately, that is true. But this is my thing. Some of my items still have not been sold... and not everyone is looking for one particular item at any particular time. They will do some reading, re-search, and find that they like the item. Then they go on the forum and my items (which they want) for sale are on page 50 and they don't get their knife and I don't get my cash. The search does not find items all the time.. I can guarantee that, even with correct spelling. There is a benchmade steigerwalt right now on page one.. and when you input "Steigerwalt" in the search form area... it doesn't even come up with the thread on page 1... which is odd.

I think unsold items should stay close to the 1st 3 pages and liked the 3 day rule much better. It keeps things fresh and easy to find until the item is sold.. then it is allowed to fall in the the depths of the unknown.

Perhaps it's too hard to manage?

Like I said, the 72 hour rule was just a necessary evil with the old system. Yes, it allowed you to get back on page one every three days, but you never really stayed there long. When you combine everyone else who was bumping unsold knives with all the questions, comments and "I'll take it" replies, it wasn't unreasonable to expect your brand new thread or bump to go to page two in a matter of hours. With all of that now done away with, you can expect your thread to stay on page one for a solid day in even the busiest parts of The Exchange.

And no longer would I consider being on page-three "the depths." Now, if someone only has the opportunity to check the forums every couple of days, they can very quickly and easily catch up on everything they have missed. No thread should ever again be lost in the jumble of bumps.

If the new system just isn't for you, there are a handful of suggestions for how to deal with it.
The easiest is to simply click "Last Reply" at the top of any forum to change the sort order back to the way it was for that session.

I guess we can only let this new way work it's self out and see how it goes.. The only reason I am a little irritated at the moment is I have a couple of knives that haven't been sold and I was going to do my bump and price drop nothing came of it and there is nothing I can do to put it back on page one.... who knows what page it is on because it has been 5 days now.. lol.. I guess with future posts it won't be irritating because I won't have something already sitting far behind not sold.
