Bumping Doesn't Work?

I'd like to get some clarity on how this board operates. I have a craftsman membership and a thread in the Knifemaker forum. On occasion when I have new pieces for sale, I'll update the thread assuming the thread will get moved back to the first page. It was brought to my attention today that it's not the case.

So what is the work around? I was told every two weeks I can close the the "old" thread and start a "new" thread to bring it back to the front of the forum. That seems really strange to me. Please confirm, before a start this practice.

Also if anyone could offer some insight on why a thread doesn't automatically bump to the top with a new post that would be interesting too.

Thanks! :D

If it's been more than two weeks just make a new thread.

It's been 6 months! And I was wondering why the only responses I was getting was from people subscribed to the thread. This is the first forum that I've been a part of that's worked this way. Normally you restrict bumping. I've never seen a forum totally deviate from the norm.

Do I close the old thread? I've had communication in the old thread and multiple feedback posts.

At this point, I've started a new thread, basically reposting the stuff in the first thread. I've added a link to the old thread referencing the new thread and vise versa. The only thing I haven't done is close the original thread. I don't want all the correspondence to be lost.

And I have to do this every two weeks.

Okay.

You can close your original or leave it open your choice. Yes unfortunately due to abuse of bumping the default has been changed and you will have to relist every 2 weeks.

You can leave the old thread open. But if you link to the new thread in the last post on the old one, your subscribers can redirect their subscriptions so closing it won't hurt you or them.

Thanks guys. I have put a link in the old.

If I close the old one, and put a link to it in the new thread (for feedback pics and other info) will the old thread still still be viewable or is it gone?

Threads don't disappear unless they are moved to the back. Close your thread and it will continue to exist where it is, only it is closed to new posts.

You can only close a thread if you have a paid membership
