Bumps not working

Bumping was disabled some years ago for the Exchange. Many people still don't know this and post bumps, but their threads don't go any where, either.

In place of bumping, we now allow reposting after 14 days,

Check this, Exchange Rules:

http://www.bladeforums.com/forums/announcement.php?f=746&a=98

Section 2.9
You must wait 14 days (2 weeks) to relist an item for the second time. So once you list an item for sale, that item cannot appear for a second time in a sales thread until 2 weeks have passed from the date of the original thread. Bumping threads or "BTTT" in the sales sections has been disabled due to abuse.

Don't Bumps work in Tapatalk? I got the impression that whenever I click on Unread or Timeline it shows the most recent posts including bump posts in sales threads.
Thus if people still do bumps they might be up to something.

Others circumvent a possible limitation by crosslinking their older sales threads in new sales threads.

Bumped threads post will show up in the New Post section and on the front page of the site. As more posts are made they will slide further down untill they are off those lists. (This is on desktop, i imagine something smilar goes on with tapatalk.)

The bumped threads themselves do not move at all within their respective forum.

So you can only bump and item every two weeks, or does it automatically go to the top after two weeks?

No you have to repost your sale after 2 weeks just copy and paste it to the top.

Yes, it's a feature now that you have to dig through a whole bunch of closed/sold threads before you can see current ones. All because a few people abused it and didn't get dealt with. Brings the value of the Exchange forum down quite a bit IMHO for sellers and buyer equally..

Not exactly all true. At first it was different, and I was not in agreement with it. But after some time, it makes sense. Post a link to your wares into your signature line, and there it is. There is also the search function, which can be used by forum specifically. I've never not been able to find something that way. Depends on how motivated/lazy the seller or buyer is.
All about perspective I guess.

I appreciate the level headed reply Rev. But.. it doesn't help sellers because they no longer get the window shopping buys and it doesn't help the buyers for the same reason, some of us don't know what we want until we see it and we won't go 20 pages deep in a thread just to see what stuff is still actually available when that stuff should be on the first 2 pages. Punishes the many because of the few..

ps. Rev, you list some work arounds, can you list 1 or 2 good/beneficial things about doing it this way? Other than things that could be nullified by banning the people who break the rules from the Exchange?

The old format is two quick clicks away.

When in the exchange, click 'Last post by' once, then again.

(Twice because it first defaults to oldest first, then NEWEST first)

Just the way you like it. Yes, it's a bit more 'work', but it's right there.

Me? I prefer the new format 100%.

Prefer the new format why? What does it help besides the need for active moderation?

ps. Thanks for pointing out the way to list them by post Coop, hadn't thought of it.

I can see at a glance what's been newly listed and what's been there for a while. If I am anxious for a deal, being able to see the newly listed threads without the bumps moving them out of range, allows that.

To each their preference, but now that you see how quickly it is to revert back to the old viewing, it's not as harsh.

Have at it! :)

While we're talking about the signature, I can't, for the life of me, figure out how to make a signature or add a avatar. Gold membership is enough for those features, correct?

ETA I found it in the FAQ...duh

Yes, we hide all kinds of useful information (like Easter eggs) in the FAQ, sticky threads, and announcements. :)

Gee, why on earth would we disable bumping when people would bump threads every 30 minutes so the same 5 sellers were constantly on the top of the front page.

Perhaps a better option would be to stop those 5 people instead of stopping everyone else who wasn't doing it. I still believe it takes value away from the memberships to be punished for the acts of a few..

That discussion was had about 5 years ago to the day. The system works as it is, and people will abuse it otherwise, then cry later when they get spanked for it. Personally, my vote goes to leaving things as they are. People have a hard enough time reading the rules as they are now.
