ouch man, sry to hear about your car, seeing as how you are selling your striders, can i assume that you have sold at least a few of your children already too? :D

You could probably pick up a junkyard jeep I6 for alot less than that. Id figure 200 for an engine in decent shape (cheaper if its a pick n pull yard) then about 100 for misc stuff (hoses, bolts, ect) and 50-100 for beer and pizza for car knowledgeable friends.

Jeep dealer quoted $3.8k for a new 4.0 I6 installed and jeep recycler hav a used 49K for $1.5K
I wish I hav better luck! Matt I will email you my paypal account. Thanks to all

Shintaro: I will take the sykes fairbaren, email me paypal info, been around cars for ever, call jimmy at 717-667-2191 Aumillers auto wreckers, biggest yard in pa. tell him swayneee from ct told you to call! Thanks john at infobound1@aol.com. they will ship or if you are on the n-east coast I am going ther next wed. and can bring it back fo you.

how the hell did you blow up the 4.0, i have TJ and that engine is indistructable!

a rebuild on that engine should not be too bad (in relative terms of course)
do the research tho, tell us exactly what the problem is, there is prolly a gearhead around here somewhere :)

Apparently, my lady did not change oil, timing belt if any or check coolent. Odo reads 160K+! I don't hav the exact details but by what she told me and her mechanic says engine is toasted need replacement! BTW I'm in central CA farm country. We worked like (Med folks) crazy and hardly hav time to do anything else as I'm waiting for advance training to get license? CA kinda sucks for now.

Just to let you know, i would shop around, both those prices are outragous, you could build a stroked out 4.5-4.7L I6 for that kind of money. Your best bet may be to find a junker cherokee or grand for around 500 buck, grab the engine, and piece out the rest.

I have a 3.8 I6 sittin in the garage with <10K on it, but it wouldn't bolt up to easily, or I'd sell it to you cheap

these guys are right, find a total somewhere and take the engine. they dissapear fast though, so you would need to be proactive (dont go running 4.0Ls off the road now)

another idea, go to the local CC and visit the auto shop and ask for advice, it would be a great oportunity for everyone :) turn your crisis into a class discussion and you just might get some good help for probably free!

dang man sorry to hear about your JEEP .. On a side note .. we just bought a 1993 Jeep Grand Cherokee Laredo in awesome condition like 3 days ago from a used car lot.. ( like new) for $1700.00 has that same 4.0L I6 in it as well.. only problem with it was the shift point computer TCU was fried.. plug and play got a new one and now she shift great.. for a 1993 this thing looks like it sat in a time capsule.. Hope you get it fixed for less than they quoted ya for a new engine.. Check ebay .. they sell them on there all the time.. but you would have to eat the freight .. but still less than $3.8k..

Shintaro: Sorry for the delay in my response, I was tickled to receive the sykes/fairbarin without having seen pictures, I am glad you did not post them as the knife would have sold before i saw it. Absolutely beautiful peice of work, the Damascus is gorgeous. Sorry you are on the wrong side of the country for me to help you with the jeep, Thanks again and best of luck john at infobound1!
