I am a new member of blade forums however I have read many reviews on knives on here I've planned on purchasing. There however is not much said of this Bund Donges.
This is a German Navy Knife and on first look it just screams bushcraft. I found one on an auction site for 20 bucks and took a shot in the dark.
The blade is a flat ground spey point blade.
I could find nothing of the type of steel used. It is some sort of stainless. It does have a nice edge on the spine that has no problem showering sparks on a ferro rod.
The handle is some sort of hard wood and is a little square. I found the handle to have some hot spots while making a feather stick which it did very well with. This handle could easily be sanded to your liking. The knife is full tang and has 3 brass rivets holding the handle on. The 3rd pin is hollow for a lanyard. The sheath is leather scandi style with a plastic insert. The retention is good. The blade sharpens easily. I used an 8 inch 1000 grit diamond stone and stropped on cardboard. The blade has enough belly to skin with. I also battoned the blade through some 3.5 inch hardwood seasoned logs and it excelled. After making a feather stick and battoning 3 logs down to kindling it was no longer shaving sharp but still slid through paper pretty easily. In my opinion this knife would do very well at light bushcrafting ( think Mora). Would be great for a Bob bag or to just stow in the back of the truck. I would get one if the opportunity presents.
