got a nice surprise in the mail today! This is my first kukri by Himalayan Import’s Royal Kami Bura and another by Durba.

From top to bottom

Ganga Ram by Durba kami
22” overall
15” blade
½” spine
1532 grams (54oz – 3.3lbs)

WWII by Bura
20” overall
14” blade
3/8” spine
787 grams (27.7 oz)

Bonecutter by Murali (this is mine added for comparison)
16-1/4” overall
11-1/4” blade
3/8” spine
694 grams (24oz)

I am not the biggest fan of the WWII model but this one by Bura, while obviously being large, is light balanced nimble and has a very comfortable and secure handle. I’m sure it is kukri like this that made this model such a favorite in the past.

The Ganga Ram by Durba is massive! I always wanted a Ganga Ram to compare with my Bonecutter but this is just in a class by itself. It would be impossible to draw any comparisons between this and any other kukri I have.

The Ganga Ram along with the Bura WWII will get a nice soaking, a good polish and then some Renaissance Wax before going in the showcase! I have been waiting for a Bura to show up for some time, so this one will be cherished like the irreplaceable treasure it is.

Some some more pics, for now!

Bill-How is it that you were able to acquire these?Purchase from another owner? What's the story?

I woke up last week and something made me check out the sales forum. Something I rarely do. I saw 5 HI's for sale including a Kumar M43i, the "i" standing for "Improved" the Bura WWII and the Durba Ganga Ram. Unfortunately, my M43 rival and fellow formite Jay had the time factor on his side and had purchased the M43i while I was asleep. But luckly for me, the Bura and Durba blades were still available and I greedily snatched them up.

They just arrived in the mail this morning. Can't wait to hear Jay's report on the M43i.

Bill,

Actually it's Sher made. The M-43i should come in less than 2 weeks (yes it does take that long across the globe, unless Auntie lend me her stargate).
I must say i'm very fortunate to have scored that. Will post the pics once i give it a spa and possible repair on the cracked horn handle, Bill!

I believed Bura could talked to the khuks because he made them "alive"

I had some friends over last night and many of them love kukri. One of them picked up the Ganga Ram and you could see his face light up. Then he picked up my Santosh WWII and messed with it a bit with little reaction. When he picked up the 20" Bura WWII he just matter of factly said, this is the best kukri I ever felt! Nothing is even close. I told him that is why they call Bura the Royal Kami!

Jay, can't wait to see the M43i once you get it cleaned up. Hope you don't have to wait too long.

Bura rocks!
Good to know my khuks are getting around :D
As UB said, they find their right owner

Bill, keep us in the loop on how that WWII grows on you. I really like mine, as you know. Yours is several inches longer, but not much heavier. It should feel nice! Take care.
