I'm glad the wait is over!!!

I just got my second khukuri today (another 16.5 WWII!! :D ). Compared to Kumar's blade, Bura's is a lighter knife and feels more agile in the hand. It is less thick over all than Kumar's and the balance point is slightly less than an inch in front of the cho vs about 1.5 inches for the other knife. I guess it is more of a fighter than the other one. Fit and finish of the handle is amazing and the sword of shiva is straighter than my Kumar blade. It's suprising how they are so similiar yet have features unique to each kami...

A superb knife for 1/2 price, all I need to do now is sneak Uncle Bill's payment into the mail without my parents knowing... :footinmou

The tip is missing less than a milimeter or so of metal. Is this easy to fix by removing some metal from the blade section or blending into the spine perhaps?

Thanks

And oh, what's this red stuff... OMG, Gurkha BLOOD!! >_< I'll never scrub it off!

Sounds like you have the same parent problem that I do, I have three khuks, a kumar karda, tomahawk, and K-Bar.

Dont worry about it guys, I collected stuff and made stuff in highschool that my mom still dosent know about. Also, just an fyi, to help further your collection it helps to live alone in college. :)

I have some bura stuff... really really neat stuff. I agree with your assessment.

The only thing I dont get are your questions you have to ask.

(Thinking of Bura I think I need a new sword. hmmm....)

Sorry, but the red stuff is polishing compound.

Interesting you got two of the same thing, and then got the chance to compare the Bura to the Kumar. Whole different feel to each isn't it?

Incidentally, the first two Buras I got were a Ganga Ram and a Banspati. Too big, too heavy. Sent them both back. Really, truly. Today, I grab for the Bura's first, now that Sanu is gone.

Chopsticks, Skeletor;
I got my first K-Bar at 12 and scared my parents half to death. I don't know when they found out I was carrying a folder.

By the time you've used and sharpened it a couple of times,
[see the FAQ on the HI website RE sharpening, emphasis on burnishing]
you probably won't be able to tell.

First time I tried out one of my khuks I banged the tip into a cement floor
and bent a couple of mm of the tip sideways.
Burnishing and a very fine file used gently took care of the problem.
You could tell if you cared to look, but it looks just fine.

Remember, if you do try to 'fix' it; less done is more better.

I have two 18" AKs by Bura. One is wood handled and the other is horn. They are still different in other ways though. That is the beauty of handmade things, and why you will always be looking for another one that speaks in a different voice.

Guys, two additional thoughts.

1) Be careful swinging a big Khukuri inside, your parents wouldn't like a big cut in the ceiling. I'm glad mine didn't notice.

2) You're getting HI khukuris, you have much better taste than I did at your age.

Chopsticks, Congrats on your new WWII. I too have a 16.5" WWII made by Bura. When I first got it, it bit me (I wasn't carefull unpacking it:o ) so I was a little shy around it. Payed more attention to the Bura Sirupati I got at the same time (I have a thing for Sirupatis). But I warmed up to the WWII a few hours later, after I got back from a class. Now, after using the WWII, I like it even better.

If I had the money (which I don't, I'm broke:( so I might have to sell a Khukuri soon) I'd off to take it off your hands. Two are better then one you know?:) he he he
