I will never be able to tell this story the way it should be told but I'm going to try. Bear with me.

About ten days into my stay in Nepal Bura stopped by Pala's deera in Anamnagar on his way home from work and wanted to speak to me. Here is what he had to say.

"Bena, since you have been here I have watched you and listened to what you have said. I have seen what your American customers and friends have done for us -- not just buying the knives we make but the gifts and pictures. You and your friends and customers have done more for us than anybody and it is only right for us to offer something in return.

Therefore, I am here to ask your permission to proceed with a project. I want to offer your customers and friends a special khukuri. I want to call this khukuri Bura's Friendship Ganga Ram khukuri. I will make these Ganga Ram khukuris better than Ganga Ram himself could make them and my son, Bhimsen, will engrave a picture on the blade of a Nepali shaking hands with an American. I know you have customers all over the world but Americans have bought more of our knives and have given us more gifts so we will call this man on the blade an American. We will do the engraving free of charge and I will do my best work as a means of repaying you and your friends and customers for all you and they have done for us. Do I have your permission to proceed?"

Of course, I gave Bura permission to proceed with the project.

What can I say about these men that will convey their honor and integrity more than what Bura said and did. As I have often mentioned in this forum, untouchables though they may be, I'd as soon cast my lot with the men of BirGorkha as with just about anybody.

The first Bura's Friendship Ganga Ram arrived yesterday. The engraving is free and I'm discounting the knife $25 and paying the shipping because I'd like to see Bura move some of these very special khukuris. Price delivered to your door is $225.

If anybody wants a khukuri that has much more than the usual amount of blessings get this one.

Call or email.

Khukuri FAQ

Dido Bill, What are the specifications on this khukuri? I estimate it to be 17 to 18 inches long, probably 1.5 to 2 pounds weight.

Khukuri FAQ

I am glad that I went to work on saturday... for the simple reason of I would not have been sitting in front of the computer getting bored and being forced to fight the ennui with a look at BF. What do I see??? Just one of the most beatiful khuks, with an incredible jesture. Had to act quick. One of the few times that it has paid to be a east coaster.(that whole time zone thing) I am really looking forward to this one. Thank you again Uncle Bill.

Thanks Bro. My sweet wife says,"What? You order another knife?" I told her that I had already spoken for another GR before you left for Nepal.

Et al.
I think that Bro is still suffering from jet lag and lack of good beer for almost a month.
I would bet that he has forgotten to wiegh and measure this khukuri for those of us that are wondering.

Matt it will probably be up to you to inform the rest of us about the vital statistics of this knife.

Glad that you were able to snag the 1st one. That's always a very special feeling.

Khukuri FAQ

It seems to me that the shape of the "new" GR is different from the old one. When I compare the pic of the original to this one it dosen't seem the same. I must say that I like the looks of this one much more. I'd really love to get one of these friendship khukuris but I would be afraid to use it. Of course I know that I could never damage it, but the idea is still there. I guess you can add me to the huge list of people that dream of owning a GRS.

There is a question that I have pondered Use or no use...

I think that as soon as I hold it for the first time it will let me know.

Yvsa, you are right. I was up at 4AM again today and out at the computer shack at 4:30. Going over I was fine. The 50 hour transit coming back is still with me. I can't seem to shake the Nepal time and don't know what to do about it. I hope it isn't permanent.

There are two things I greatly like about Bura's Friendship Ganga Ram. One, it keeps the name of old Ganga Ram alive. At 80 he could not keep up the production pace and had to go home to rest. He may come back when the weather gets warmer for another month or two stay. I hope so. Second, there is something very touching and poignant about the Friendship aspect. It tells in steel a very good story about how the men of BirGorkha feel about us.

Of course, I forgot to measure and weigh the knife. Help us, Matt!

Daniel you are logged with thanks.

Okay the Mail-person has not made my "A"-Christmas list. Still waiting... I need my fix MR or MRs Post-person!

I just got it the other day! Whew! If our postal service is the best in the world I would really hate to see the worst. I think that the problem lies in the fact that anytime I have something sent to me express this or priority that it always seems to take extra long.... Hmmmm Maybe it is the whole rush thing that confuses people in the package shipping industry. Cuz this happened with the Ups, the USPS, and Fed Ex! I just don't understand.
Maybe it is Karma telling me that I need to learn patience. Anyway I will post more on this incredible khukri later. Thank you again Uncle Bill.
