You may have noticed that the weekly "Free Burl on Friday" has been closed along with a few other similar threads. The free samples thread was closed and re-opened in the for sale section.

I was informed that there had been complaints and that I was posting in the wrong forums. My apologies to any who I have unintentionally offended. It is my intention to do things correctly and be an asset to the forum, not an annoyance. The mods have been correct in the changes they have instructed me to make.

If in the future I do anything to annoy or offend any of the forum members please do not hesitate to send me a PM and let me know. I will make a correction immediately. No arguments or attempted justifications.

I have spoken to Spark about a sub forum similar to that which some of the knife makers and manufacturers have. It is in the works. I will let you all know how it progresses.

For the time being the weekly giveaway contest will be suspended until I figure out a way to continue it without cluttering up any of the forums.

Thanks for putting up with me while I figure out how to fit in here.

Personally, I thought it plebeian to close the threads and require them to be moved. I can understand not condoning sale threads in shop talk, but you are giving back to the knife makers in this forum as well as educating about and exposing makers to some various handle materials that many makers aren't familiar with. I guess it can be seen as a marketing attempt on your part, which it surely is to some degree, but if some people's skin is so thin as to bleed at that, it is they that have the problem and not you.

You have in no way bruised my feelings or ego, and in fact, I was somewhat offended and more than a good bit pissed off that the posts were closed in the first place. In fact, you would have received a ranting PM from me last night if BF's hadn't crashed and lost it and if I hadn't been too lazy to re-type it. Maybe that's just my own problem with authority rearing its head. I guess the bottom line is that this is a site owned by an individual, and as such, the rules can be set however the owner desires. If we don't like it, we can leave as others have. I just didn't see your posts as a violation of any rules of shop talk.

Kudos on your good manners in handling the situation. God bless you, Mark.

Well, Nick beat me to it and summed up my entire post in about 5 words. :D (I type way too slow sometimes)

Nick and Nathan, thank you for your loyalty but I am hoping this thread will not become something to bash any decisions made by the mods. They have a thankless job that gets noticed only when they do something you or I disagree with. Technically the mod made the correct decision. The fault was mine because I did not take the time to remain familiar with the site rules.

Somebody has to enforce the rules and when they do it can make them look like the bad guy. Without the rules and enforcement of them I believe the forum would become to chaotic and turn into something none of us would enjoy.

I spoke to Kevin/Spark on the phone earlier today. My goal being to find a way to fit in smoothly. I asked about my own individual forum. He thought that would be a good idea along with developing another category for suppliers. I am looking forward to what develops.

Sometimes something can happen that might be upsetting at first but can cause things to advance to a better and more productive level. I believe that is what is happening now.

I think it's about time you had your own forum, though I wasn't bothered by any of your posts. I'd say you fit in just fine Mark, and your friendly approach and cool head is a large part of what makes buying from you so nice.

I'm going to agree with what Nick said originally. There are people who do give always here from time to time. Granted they're not always dealers but who better to give stiff away than a guy supplying it. Yes there may very well have been a degree of marketing/advertising on there bit you've already paid as a dealer I don't see the big deal about having 1 ongoing thread as a weekly give away. Not bashing the mods or anything I mod on another forum myself so I kind of know the job. Personally I think someone got their panties on a little bit of a wad for whatever reason and ruined something that was a way for you to give back to customers. Seems a bit petty and girlish to me but it seems its the whiners that get their way nowadays. That's how this whole "politically correct" movement got started and now you can't do anything without pissing someone off. It's just that the people who have a thick enough skin aren't bothered to go make a big stink about it.

The mod was right and I was wrong.
I had received a warning on a different thread and didn't think about the others. I can see how it would look like I was ignoring the mod. The mod also followed up with a couple friendly PMs and patiently answered my questions.

Now I think I should go light myself on fire and stab myself like a real knifemaker.

This reminds me of the saying....More laws, more criminals! :thumbdn:

Thanks for clarifying Mark. Out of respect for your clearly stated position I won't say anything like, I agree with Nick. :barf: That would be just wrong. I look forward to seeing your optimism toward positive changes unfold, because until then, the bottom line is, you've suspended your weekly give-aways. :( I like win-win situations. This just doesn't feel like one at this point. Like I said, I'm not going to say anything though.:foot: Or use that smiley I have never used yet. :jerkit:

As the dolphins in Hitch Hikers Guide to the Universe said upon leaving the Earth, "So long, and thanks for all the fish!"

See you in your new forum soon!

I have moved the entries and re-opened the free burl on Fridays contest in the for sale forum. Took a little while transferring all the entries. I removed my comment posts so it served to shuffle the deck.

This week's prize is a piece of golden amboyna burl.
