Burnishing tools?

I am looking at a selection of HI Kukri on a UK site and I see references to a burnishing tool.

Is this a mini steel?

BTW I am getting close to getting a HI Kukri...;)

Here is the link.

Many many thanks, you guys on the HI forum are incredibly patient and friendly!:)

The burnishing tool is the chakma, it allows you to realign the edge of the kukri without taking any metal off. It comes with the kukri along with a small knife, called the karda. Both of these tools fit into small pockets in the kukri's sheath.

General are you sure thoses knives are HI khuks there are a number of web sites using HI terms to sell some real junk.....buy from Bill Martino and you cannot go wrong....the ones in the link look odd for some reason...

A few of them look like the cheap, tourist khukuri I've got, but a couple have the engraving work on the side like my BAS does...I'm confused!

Thanks for the heads up guys...

The only reason for getting one in the Uk is the weight, and HUGE tax bill for importing such a blade from the US.

I do not like asking people to "ahem" help with such costs if you understand me...:p Unless I know them well.

Perhaps Bill needs to tell off this company if they are claiming they are the real deal and are not?

Thanks for the detail on the chakma, I was confused, as to me a burnishing tool is NOT a straight/butchers steel.

Oh dear, I hope I am not about to cause trouble for anyone, that was not my intent.:o

If they are selling "tourist" khukuris as HI products, they should get in trouble! Don't feel bad about that!

BTW, why is a khukuri taxes any more than any other goods? If it is because it is a "weapon," couldn't it be declared as a hand tool? A khukuri is most certainly a tool!

No, those khukuris are not from BirGorkha -- standard Nepali bolster and buttcap, no marking on the blade. I'd guess they come from Khukuri House -- decent enough khukuris for the price but not BirGorkha or HI products.

The total VAT bill would be 26% plus a flat charge of nearly £12 to collect the charge at the doorstep. Thats a fair hit! I recon I would be looking with postal etc at about $70 to $100 on top of the price of the blade...:(

If the item is sent as a return under warranty that is a different matter, esp if no invoice in package. HINT HINT...:p

If they are not the genuine article, I will not buy! I want the REAL DEAL!

BTW I want to replace my Gerber Sports Axe. Weight is not a problem. What would you chose? I want a chopper, not a fighter. I am looking at the 15" Ang Khola or perhaps the 18"

Smart choice with the AK. The 15" would make a fine chopper, and the 18" an even better one! If weight isn't a problem, go for the 18"!

I've got a 20" AK on its way to me right now! Yum! :D

Thinking about it, we are talking blade length here and not over all length?

Would be nice if all the pics had a ruler or a familier knife in the picture like a spyderco delica and endura?

Yea, it is wrong! :D

Uncle Bill called it a "Perfect 20 inch 39 ounce AK by Sher with all the usual Sher features." I knew I had to have it! :D

Actually, the measurements are overall length, from tip to tip.

General:

All HI Khukuris are OAL Overall length.

Check out the Khukuri dynamics prepared by one of our expert analyists, Pendentive, in the FAQ link above.

Also, the Construction and Maintenance section of the FAQ , illustrates the parts and measurement of the Khukuri.

BTW, general, I've been known to do crazy things like buy items here and then ship the "gifts" to the UK. Just ask Brendan. ;)
