This method of sharpening is being touched on on another thread here. What exactly is this method and how does it apply to using my Spyderco 203 sharpener???

Shrike --

Have you seen the Sharpening FAQ at http://www.bladeforums.com/features/faqs.html ??

The FAQ explains in more detail. The burr method is to raise a burr on each side of the blade, which some people (including me) believe is the best way to determine when your edge bevel has reached the apex, and the best way to guarantee that the entire edge -- rather than just one part -- has reached the apex. Once a burr is raised on both sides, it must be ground off.

I used to think it was hands-down the best sharpening method, but over the past year or so I've payed more attention, and am beginning to see that some people have more success using Sal's method. I believe that's because the burr method is a little more difficult for some people to master, though some people pick it up easily, and done right the results are always better than any other method. I think Sal believes his method is just plain better though

Boy do I feel stupid!!!!! Never even noticed the FAQ. I'm always going straight to the forums and skipping everything else.

Thanks for pointing them out, lots of excellent info!!!!!

Dan - Sorry 'bout that on the video. I'll see what I can do. What format do you use there?

Hi Sal!

Thanks.. Now THIS is what I call service deluxe!

We use VHS PAL version I think. All I know is that it's not the US version, but the opposite. I think you guys use NTSC there, right?

Gee.. I'll finally be able to see you in action, Mr. Glesser!

Sal,

Excuse me, but I think I made a big boo-boo. We use NTSC format here, and not PAL. Sorry for the confusion.. arghhh...

Thanks.

Hello Sal,

Do you give the Video only in the USA ? because I bought a Sharpmaker 204 in Holland and never got the video to go with it.
I really would like to see how you use the sharpmaker.
In Holland we use the VHS-Pal format and I still do not own a socalled multiformat VCR that can also use NTSC format tapes and convert the signal to the Dutch PAL TV format.

Best regards,

Helen
