Burt Foster camp knife...chop, chop, chop.

I recently received my new Burt Foster Blue Collar Camp Knife and I am certainly pleased. I have several of Burt’s knives and although this one is unquestionably the plainest, it may well be my favorite. On my property there were some small trees that needed to be cleared out so I decided to give the knife a try. The 52100 blade held its edge really well although about three quarters of the way through the trailer load shown in the photo, I stropped the blade lightly. That was done more out of habit than necessity.

I am very impressed with the handle. The ironwood scales are shaped so that the knife feels secure in the hand when chopping and after cutting all the wood and brush shown in the photo, the handle was still comfortable in my hand. Chop, chop, chop……….a 5 by 10 trailer full. Whew, I’m tired but my hand doesn’t hurt.

Burt is a nice guy and a great maker to deal with. He not only makes excellent knives, but he makes them when he says he will, and that goes a long way with me.

Most excellent! It's great to see these knives put to use. I have two of Burt's knives that see frequent use, but they are both smaller pieces. Nice to see a big chopper go to work.

Do show us your other Foster pieces sometime.

Ack! Great knife! And I'm really glad to see it getting used. Mr. Foster's knives really seem like they are very well thought out, with a mind towards utility. His construction sure looks fantastic too. And beautiful to boot.
When I get another handmade knife, I will be calling on him to make one for me.

Thanks to RP, Phyllis now has a nice Burt Foster knife

but I doubt it will see any work. It does have a nice stand and does show well though.

Murray - that little personnal carry is lovely. Thanks for sharing. Burt is becoming one of my favorite makers pretty quickly...

oh, I love that Burt Foster camp and that integral knife also!

can you share the specs of the BF camp knife? any pics of the sheath as well....I know Burt makes fantastic sheaths!

Bill, does this mean we are going to have to start watching out for you in cutting competitions??

Great looking knife from a super maker and a all around good guy.

Spyken, the knife is 52100, ironwood, 10 inch blade, .290 at the spine just ahead of the grips and it weighs 18.6 oz. Sorry, no sheath pictures as it dos not have one yet.

Bill, right now the only cutting competition I am qualified to enter is the cutting small dogwoods with no time limit and stop part way through for a sandwich if you want to competition.

it's damn nice....wonder how much a blue collar camp costs.....

makes me regret not buying the blue collar camp knife that Burt offered to me a couple of years back...he used it to win a cutting competition....argh!

Ah, the dreaded "shouldaboughts" - I know the feeling.

Nice chopper ALL around, however that handle shape just screams comfort and like the multiple thong holes.

And that ironwood is absolutely gorgeous.:thumbup:

An extremely well designed chopper IMO.

Burt is a super cool guy! His integrals are sweet!
