Awesome! Congratulations Burt. I knew you were Popular but I had no idea you were a Mechanic!

Is the article online?

It's always great when we can cross over to other fields - I'm going to have to find that mag.

Very cool Burt I am going to buy a mag today. one they would not have sold if not for you.

It's always great when Custom Knives spill over into the mainstream media.
I've always believed knowledge of will product more enthusiasts/collectors.

Great work Burt. I would be interested in how it came to be as I don't see much of a connection in custom knives to Popular Mechanics. Now a Hunting or Gun magazine, yes.

I will definitely get a copy.

On news stands or subscription?

Congrats, either way Mr Foster.... Sir.

:D

Hooray for Burt , and this is good for the rest of us knife making types.

Hey guys, I still have yet to see the actual thing in print. My bookstore still didn't have it in yet as of a couple days ago.

Here's how it al came about... Popular Mechanics runs a monthly column on the very last page of the magazine called "My job" featuring guys with strange jobs. Here's some of the past My Job articles:

http://www.popularmechanics.com/myjob/

The folks at Popular Mechanics contacted the ABS looking for a Mastersmith that fit certain criteria (like being full-time and I think a certain age range and stuff like that). Greg forwarded my info to them and eventually they contacted me, sent out a photographer, etc.

Like everyone else, I hope it gives the rest of the world out there a little glimpse into our world. It will be online eventually, but I think they run the online version on a 1 month delay from the print version. The online version may have a short clip of me forging a knife, doing a little sharpening demo, etc. We'll see...

Burt, you'll be happy to know that they didn't use one of those photos that make you look like a psychotic fiend. :p You look, like, totally normal.

Airbrushed, eh? J/K :D Congrats, Burt, kudos for getting some mainstream exposure and hopefully converting some new collectors or makers...

VERY VERY COOL BURT!!!!!!

Kevin, I used to read PM all the time as a kid, and the articles featured just about anything mechanical... i.e. coverage about welding, machining, just about any engineering etc. So I think the science behind bladesmithing would fit right in. Just be a lot different than the mainstream thinking for sure!

I'm glad to hear this!!! :)

Yep Nick, me too. I liked the detailed plans showing how to build some pretty cool stuff. We must have both been strange kids. We were looking at PM while our friends were looking at PB. ;) :D
