Just found beautifull knives. They are from Syberian russian republic - Buryatia. They really close to Mongolian. Very interesting knife culture - looks very similar to japanies knives, but different. And wood carving just amaizing:

Kind of interesting - mongolian use sabers not katanas, so you may expect saber kind of knives there - I maen curvy. But they are strait. It is hard to explain it by japanies influence. It were mongolian who attack Jappan once (Habulay's two attempts) not vise versa. How does it happen that this two nations have similar knife culture.
Thanks, Vassili.

That sounds like a tough question.
Perhaps it's should be moved to Bernard's forum.

Pretty stuff!!

The straight bladed knives seem to me quite quite similar to the longer puuko knives imported by Kellam. There are some quite long versions in the "Tommi" line. The "dangler" style sheath seems similar in function as well. Maybe there is more than one influence at work. Very old, non-asian burials have been found in China, and if I recall correctly, in the Mongolian area.

I found more information about this knives. This is my translation:
-----------------------------------------
"The true buryatian knife - thin, long, straight with three steel rings on the handle (for better grip when stubing), withoud any guard. This is weapon only, not for hunting, not for kitchen. Only purpose - kill an enemy. Handle made from two pices - stronger, will not break when throw. Thin - to penetrate nomad armor. When russian conquested mongols only knife was alloved to carry - at this point they developed special knife fighting style: "highn arin arbadakhi ardany". This style includes use of sheath with chain or leather belt to strangle. Mongols at one jump manage to wind sheath chain around enemy neck. So buriatian knives are always well balansed..."
