One each in D2 and 154CM

Glacier: 7 5/8" OAL, 3" x 1 1/8 x 5/32 blade in D2 CRYO (59-61 HRC) treated or 154CM stainless CRYO (58-59 HRC) treated. Bead blast canvas micarta or G10 scales stainless tubing pins and lanyard tube or loveless bolts. With kydex sheath. OR engineer you own from a finished blade that you can procure here: http://www.knifemaking.com/Default.asp OR you can make your own blade from bar stock and engineer the rest. All three are fun and simple!

I just finished these up this morning. Off to the laser engraver later today.

BMK,

You will get the hang of this. Some people start out guns-a-blazing and get shot down, pick themselves up, then fit in like there was no problem at all. Keep up the honesty and a bad first impression will just be "dust in the wind".

Thanks for your comment.

Excellent fit and finish. And I wish my photography was half as good as yours. I'm not trying to pick a fight but wondering if you did the grinding because if you did I want to compliment you on excellent grind lines as well.

It IS good photography, isn't it? I really need to build a light box...

Those look good, BMK.

Thank you. So far, I only make the blades on the Chisos and Baby Chisos - the blade above is from Jantz. I will try my hand at making a larger blade when I get a better grinder.

Thanks. No lightbox and I don't know what one is but I do know that the light at sunrise and sunset makes for good photographs.

I think they have good fit and finish. My only nitpicks are these 2 things, first is going to be a normal customer question.

Chamfer the thong tubing, either get a chamfering tool or use an oversized drill bit, you can even just twist the bit in your hand to get a chamfer. Sharp edges on the tube may cut the thong.

The front bolts seem off center vertically from the spine to the bottom. For appearance, it's not a functional issue, I find centering the bolt vertically improves the appearance. Bolt and tube alignments make people kinda wonder about a knife even though there's nothing functionally wrong. It's like a jump cut in a video, you may not see it but something feels wrong. It could be caused by angle though.

Will,

My eye agrees with yours. The front bolt is too low. I have a chamfer bit and it would be a functional improvement even though the bead blast knocks some of the edge off. Thanks for the feedback.

This thread has been very refreshing! Great work BMK, I agree with Will on centering the bolt. I also think moving the rear bolt a little further away from the thong tube may help balance out the handle appearance.

On a side note, I am wondering about putting your mark on a Jantz blade? Don't most of those blanks come with another makers name on it when you order them?

ESEE and TOPS get their blades from Rowen. I think putting you mark on it would be fine but you may want to include Jantz maybe on the reverse side.

Nice looking work. Really like the grinds on those two. I also think the bolt repositioning is a good thought.

Thanks for the question. I have never gotten a blade from Jantz with anything but the steel type stamped on the tang. I don't know if Jantz knows who actually made a particular blade - it's a pretty large outfit. Unfortunately, the Jantz's eye insofar as bolt placement is concerned, does not agree with my eye.

Thank you, gentlemen. If you will allow me to segway for a moment.

Part of my social skills delinquency that my wife can attest to is that I am often undable to comprehend that anyone would think differently than me. The fact is, it never dawned on me that my website, what I do and do not do insofar as knife making is concerned, was not absolutely clear to everyone because it was crystal clear to me. I therefore (mistakenly) interpreted all questions as harassment. Once someone questioned my integrity, which I and everyone who knows me considers to be beyond reproach; my course of action was something you are all too familiar with. I promise to think outside my little box more.

When I was in Kosovo, my Asst NCOIC's primary job was to remind me that my troops didn't think like me. "They ain't you, they don't think like you." He made a sign with that on it and taped it to my desk.

One thing that may help your paradigm about knife making is to remember it's a tribal group no different than Soldiers or firefighters, we guard our group and viciously at times. Most of us are hermits toiling away in caves.

Will,

You bring to light some very good points. Thank you. It's nice to know there are others who are not "people persons" - lol.
