Got the Bush Ranger the other day, after less than one day of carry I sold it.For a knife with a 3.5" blade, the handles are very thick and bulky in the pocket. With that kind of bulk id rather have a 3 3/4+ blade. It also sticks out farther than I like, and it looks like a brown hook sticking out of the pocket. That thumb plate is kind of ugly, and it should stick out further on the sides. I seem to get a lot of misfires trying to open it. I think the recon 1 is so much better. its bigger, flatter, deeper in the pocket. The bush ranger does have a comfortable grip, that's the only thing I liked besides the blade shape. Also the brown g10 is kind of ugly, has a plasticy feel.Maybe some others might like it better, to me it was a disappointment. And as mentioned elsewhere in this forums, it has those threaded barrels to hold the pocket clip scews like the sr1. ugh .

Wow! First time I hear about this model from Cold Steels lineup... quite interesting. If anything, this knife is meant for serious heavy duty work telling by the handle at least... I must say I like it! Not for office carry, that is.

I love the blade shape. The handle certainly looks hand filling so perhaps an emphasis on cutting rather than ease of carry.
The thick grip and thumb plate are both negatives for me so I'm passing on this one. And hearing about QC issues (again) doesn't help.

If you are used to the ultimate hunter, this knife has the same thickness. I personally like ut very much. I prefer thicker blade but I don’t necessarily like long blade, hence omi haven’t be carrying the recon one

Yeah, the Ultimate Hunter was too thick for my tastes.

I just bought this from a your tuber for 100 bucks. I love cold steel. I dont mind the weight, and I dont mind the thickness. I dont mind the scales. I cant wait to get it.

Its pretty well made, and solid,i got it at 109 so it wasn't too bad got that back on it too,i like the recon 1 with the carpenter steel better, less bulky, and I added custom thumb lugs .Got a code 4 on the way in carpenter steel, too, so I don't think ill miss this one.

Reactions: WTF
That knife looks entirely too large for comfortable carry. Belt carry for the woods? I bet it'd rock. I've(sadly), never tried out a new Cold Steel, but if I were to get one I'd go with the Code 4 Tanto or Clip in XHP. Rugged and tough, but much easier on the pocket than their bigger models.

I cant see carrying a 3 1/2" blade knife with a thick handle like this, at that point id rather have a bigger blade.

i got to agree with ya on that. makes no sense to me. 3 3/4" or 4" + would make more sense. I expect sales will be low on it. I may check out the cheaper Chinese version when it comes out but not interested in this one due to price and short blade.

The Bush Ranger has interested me since I saw pictures for the first time.
Now I am a bit unsure.

Can the handle of the Bush Ranger be compared to the thickness of the Hinderer XM-18, 3.5 "?

Was opening it with a thumb so hard, or doing it like with an Emerson opener?

Regards,

Joachim

A thin handle is easier to carry , but a nice thick handle is better for hard work . Fills the hand . This is more like a fixed blade handle field knife . But a Longer blade would be nice .

It looks like a stout hand filling robust folder for outdoor use from these eyes. Of course how it looks and feels is subjective to the individual. My likes or dislikes mean nothing when it comes to yours Goldie, as you are the owner. Thanks for the opinion and pics buddy, they were quite interesting. Thumb plates are a non issue to me, easily taken off.

I love this knife guys. Been carrying it for a couple of weeks now and its awesome.....Weight, thickness, and length of blade is just fine for me. Great knife. Great materiels. Excelent feel in the hands. Fits fine in the pocket. I dunno you guys should give it another shot. I do appreciate cold steel knives....

I think the Ultimate Hunter is a great work knife that makes a fine edc. The handle is very comfortable and the knife has great ergonomics like all the Cold Steel knives . I do wonder why the Bush Ranger is heavier, even heavier than than the Recon 1. For someone who wants a solid work/carry knife with a non coated blade, I bet this will make a fine choice.

I do understand how I m getting spoiled by some of the thin light, strong carry folders like the Lawman. But knives like the Ultimate Hunter and presumably the Bush Ranger really feel good in hand.
Wonder why the Bush Ranger costs more than the Ultimate Hunter.

Bush Ranger can currently be found for $115, which is around the same price or cheaper than when Ultimate Hunter first came out. Give it some time, price should fall a bit after the market is flooded with stock
