This was commissioned by a fellow who liked the bush sword I made for the SEAL a while back. He wanted something close. This one ended up a bit longer and narrow with some recurve, but much along the same lines:

The steel is 5160, triple normalized, triple hardened, and triple tempered. The integral socket handle is wrapped in olive drab paracord, with coyote brown two-strand Turk's head knots fore and after, all impregnated with Miwax Wood Hardener. The overall length is 24", with a 17 3/4" blade. The fully sharpened clip is 4 1/2". It'll shave hair coming or going. :)

The sheath is Kydex with forest digital camo and two MOLLE locks.

That looks nice; I like your "tactical" swords a lot more than most. You don't go for a 14" handle on a 20" blade like a lot of the pieces I see out there.

Do the socket handles balance the blades ok? I imagine it leaves more material than a standard handle. If I might ask what is the balance point and the weight without sheath?

Thanks, Gregorio!

The sockets are fairly lightweight. My bush swords are blade-heavy as they are built largely as brush choppers, but they're appropriately weighted and quick. Joe Flowers got his hands on one at the Blade Show and described it as "delicately balanced". :)

I didn't get this one weighed before shipping and I didn't check POB (felt the weight and the heft and how it swing, but not the POB). Hazarding a guess, I'd say an inch or two in front of the touchmark. My bigger bush swords tend around 20 ounces.
