Anyone have some ideas or directions for making bushcraft clothing? I want to make a coat or hoodie from an army blanket and would like to make other hats and things.

I just ordered 2 sets of tiger stripe BDUs.

Blankets? Pah! :thumbdn:

Get a bone needle and some sinew thread, and stitch together some nice brain cured animal skins. Not that's bushcraft clothing!

Magnussen has an awesome article on his wool anorak evolution on his forums, I think I'll be making one soonly. My idea is more of a blanket poncho with leather/wooden tassles on the sides to tie together and make an overcoat. That way it functions as both a blanket and a bush shirt.

I've grown out of the camouflage crap, it's ugly as sin and the sheeple hate it. Not to mention a good 5 minutes of mud paint over OD or coyote tan is just as good as any camo out there. Check out Eddie Bauer's new heritage line, they have alot of awesome new clothes designed specifically for bushcraft-canvas bush shirts, hats, belts, anoraks and cargo jackets, you name it. I am also a big fan of Kakadu, I have a number of nice canvas shirts and a sweet hat from them. Their pants are superb, definately at least as durable as Carhartt's, around the same price and they fit me better.

Try looking for capote patterns,a traditional blanket coat, dead easy to make but wayyyyyy to warm for where I live in Oz.

I'm a capote fan myself. Get a good Whitney or Hudson Bay blanket. You may even consider one of those Italian blankets which are thinner and add a blanket shirt for the layering. The capote makes a good extra blanket or pad to sleep on. Make sure your hood is made big enough to tie down into a small tube to peer out from. Make the sleeves long enough to fold back over or pull down and keep the hands warm. Google for the pattern. Try Crazy Crow. Best camo, stay still.
