Bushcraft - ISH

Those be some weak ass Finlandic trees. Let's see it go against some good ole American knotty pine. 'Merica! :D

That's pretty impressive!!! I wonder if the twisting action is rough on your hands and wrists?

Saw this posted over on BCUSA. I think I'll stick with the maul. 'Murica * Yeah! Though I want to go grab an old tire now. I've used heavy bungee's and chain before, but the tire looks like a better solution.

I've heard some pretty good things about this design albeit you need to (obviously) modify your splitting technique quite a bit.

Yeah, he looks awkward swinging it in that video at times, but I guess that is the technique.

I like the "workout" chopping wood gives you, so to be honest, I am not sure I want it to be easier. If I heated my home with wood however, I may be singing a different tune.

Looks like he is splitting cold/frozen birch with no knots so any mid sized and larger splitting ax would have done the same. There have been several designs with similar intentions so it might work better than a conventional ax. In most cases I use a mid sized splitting maul and most wood without lots of knots split on the first hit. When the wood is knotty and difficult a wedge and sledge hammer always works :D

The wood splitter on the tractor will cut, split and the conveyor belt will move it where I want it, but that is for larger volumes of firewood :D
