Personal favorites:
- Mora 510
- Mora M2000
- Tora Bushcraft
- Fallkniven F1
- Opinel #7
- Vic Farmer
- Almost definitely my new Breeden SSP (when it arrives!)

Other popular ones:
- Bark River series (Aurora, Nebula, Fox River...)
- Koster Bushcraft
- Fiddleback Bushcrafter
- Scandi's like Helle, Brusletto, Karesuando.. (http://ragweedforge.com/)

I'm sure others will be along shortly with lots more!

A shorter answer, however, is to look at the Moras. Scandi's are great at working with wood, and will last forever if used for normal cutting and carving. They are also about $10, which is a cheap entry into the area.

probably my two favorites are my Skookum Bush Tool and a blade I had SWC Knives make for me and handled myself.

Periodically I take all of mine out and sort of switch off and those two always seem to come out on top.

Dan Kosters is usually third and with the 3v steel it actually has the toughest blade of any I own.

The grind angle the blade shape and thickness, and the handle shape all put the Skookum on top, but the SWC which has the Ray Mears style handle is really great too, it's just thicker bladed than the skookum.

Listen when HD speaks! He's got some good steel and dirt time.

I really think the Koster would have been one of my favorites if it was somewhere in the range of 10-20% larger overall.

Dan Koster's bushie is a really great design. I'm also partial to the BRKT Aurora -I've tried to destroy mine but it performed everything I put it thru.

Cheapo Moras are always good. So is my Helle Eggen knife. Kellam Wolverine also it up there.

I like my Koster as well.

Other favorites are the Becker Campanion, the Swamp Rat HRLM and Ratmandu. Among the Busses, I really like the Badger Attack Tac (though it's a bit bigger than the others named here) and the new SAR5.

On Vacation DEFAULT Response to newbie thread: FALLKNIVEN F-1 :D

Be back in the office on Thursday.

Spooky, you DO know that Dan made a bigger version called the BushMaster, right? There is a passaround going on right now...the consensus from some very experienced/knowledgeable guys is that it's a winner. Check Brian_T's review, as well as that of the guys from JRE Industries. You cn find them in the Koster forum.

Yeah, I heard about that but didn't fully read the reviews (been a bit busy). I heard there wasn't a pre-run discounted thing going on so I wasn't in too big a hurry yet.

lots of great advice here...

-fallkniven f-1
-bark river knife and tool: aurora, northstar and fox river
-skookum bush tool
-blind horse knives: bushcraft knife
-koster bushcraft knife
-ML knives: woods and bush knife

or you can get someone to make you a custom...:)

This has been working for me.

From the low end of the money scale a Mora works just fine. go to many high dollar woodcraft courses and they issue you one.

Moving up just a little the RAT series is hard to beat for under a C-note.

Bark River sits in the middle with the Aurora, Nebula, NorthStar, Fox River and Canadian Special all for less than $200.00.

On the upper end is any one of a dozen custom made bushies each with special features and strengths. I favor the Ray Mears style knives in this price range. I can't afford a real Wood Lore but my Stewart Marsh Bushcrafter seems to fill the bill but the money bite is closer to 3 hundred or above for some of these.

Where can I get the Ray Mears Woodlore knife? Does anyone know how much they are?

Found it. 270.00 pounds from his site. If anyone knows where I can get one without the wait, that would be great.

Fallkniven F1
Shing custom bushcraft
Bark River Fox River

I rotate between these three.

To buy: RAT 4.
