Well...it's Christmas Eve so no running around the woods tonight to use my new bushcraft knife....but....I did find a use.

I managed to find an already wounded lime that needed to be put out of its misery. The blade on this one is a little thicker than my normal kitchen knives but it certainly had no trouble dispatching the wounded lime.

The discoloration on the tip is from the flash......

Some nice thin lime slices for my hottie finace's vodka tonic.

An "in hand" pic.....I love the way this feels. Very comfortable and the micrata is very grippy.

The fruits of my labor......previously mentioned hottie with her vodka tonic with nicely sliced lime. YAY!

Merry Christmas all....now back to playing Santa now that the young ones are asleep.

hot damn that knife is pretty. has me wishing I'd ordered two! that green micarta looks great with the lime.

Love the pics. Can't wait to get mine now.

I got to use my bushcraft knife again to cut up some boxes (about 30). Cutting up the boxes from Christmas made me realized how spoiled my sons are...but that's another thread. :D

I made it through about 10 boxes before I started to notice a significant decrease in cutting ability. When I said "made it through" I mean clean, laser-like slices through the cardboard....almost effortless. Even when the cutting ability decreased....I had no trouble with the remaining 20 boxes. A little more force applied on my part and all 20 boxes were cut up and ready for the recycle bin. I'm will try to restore the edge on my strop first. If I can't it back to the way I want it.....I'll bust out my Japanese water stones. I'll post the results after I get done.

looking forward to it...I'm very curious to see the different ways people will be resharpening the scandi grind. Maybe we should have a Scandi How-To thread with sharpening tips?

the ragweed link is good and has about everything you'll need to sharpen. it is actually quite easy if you don't let your mind my it more complicated that it really is.

I'd prefer to see what you guys come up with...

my method is technically "cheating"....:D  :p

(I use a grinder with a flat platen, then strop on the wheel)

I just use a strop with a peice of sandpaper laid on it and lay the whole bevel down on it or use one of the "viking whetstones" sold by ragnar and do the same with it.
