Most traditional bushcraft knives are made with carbon steel ie O1(spyderco bushcraft) A2, or D2 tool steel. That's not to say S30V wouldn't make a great bushcraft knife though. I think most people just expected Benchmade to stick with tried and true for the design steel...

Good to know. I must admit since I've moved to a more urban setting I haven't been able to get excited about fixed blades. They usually spend 95% of their time sitting with the rest of my hiking gear since this cursed quarter of college has been eating up all my free time. The bushcrafter however won't stay in my edc backpack so I'll have to make it a point to get into the mountains this weekend to put it through its paces
