Bushcraft second surprises

Today I received the Bushcraft second I have been eagerly awaiting and got a couple of surprises (one good, one not so much).

First surprise (the good one) is that both scales are perfect; no cracks, no dings, nothing but beautiful spalted maple burl.

The other surprise was the "oops" mark on the blade. Looks like someone sneezed at the wrong moment or something. I was so busy checking out the status of the scales that I didn't notice the blemishes on the blade at first. This is a user but I'd be lying if I said I wasn't a bit bummed.

I'm really happy with it otherwise and I probably would have forked over $90 for it even if I knew the condition; however, I would have liked to know that it was a possibility in advance. The impression I got from the product page on SFO (along with all of the user photos of bushcraft seconds that I've seen) was that these were seconds just because the scales shrunk and cracked. I think the product page should be amended to include a notice that there may be other blemishes (unless this is a fluke). I understand that it's a factory second, I just like to know what I'm getting into when I spend money.

Bad photo, but you get the idea.

are you referring to the "seconds notch" as the blemish ? all seconds have them.

Being a 2nd there could be any kind of flaw in the knife that made it unacceptable in QC. That's part of the fun of playing 2nd's roulette :)

That's probably why it's a second then. I would suggest a hand rubbed finish to fix that. :)

I second this notion. If it doesn't work, then try buffing it out with dremel and metal polish. Usually works for me.
