I just finished my first pouch style sheath and it turned out better than I thought it would. I have seen several pictures of bushcraft style sheaths and it looks like a fun project. I am not sure how the loop for the fire steel is sewn and properly measured. I have seen several sheaths that are rectangular shaped vs the pouch style shape. The JRE bushcraft is an example of this. Is the welt cut to fit from the blade to the edge of sheath and is the fire steel loop placed on each side of the welt when stitching? Any advice or links to a good tutorial is appreciated. Thanks in advance.

I can answer your last two question by the way I do it...yes, the welt forms the contour of the blade, then extends to the edges of the sheath.
As for the fire steel loop, I notch out a section the welt the same width of the strap used to make the loop, skive the loop to fit the thickness of the welt, glue in and stitch.

Thanks for the reply. Sounds like I need to get to the drawing board. Do you have any pics of your bushcraft sheaths? I have seen some of your other work and it all looks awesome.

Sorry for the late reply....I don't have pictures of any "bushcraft" sheaths I've made.
