I saw the new version 2.0 revolver...
have you given any thoughts to the huge growth in "Bushcraft" style knives?
I had a wild idea...
How about a scandi grind version... something like this..

Just a thought...

I think that's a really good idea. My preference would be a regular grind as opposed to Scandi but that's just me.

I would just like to see the current version without the serrations and made with better steel.

This is a good idea. The new version 2.0 is an amazing little knife. It carries easily even in my jeans pocket.. but most of all it does things most knives cant do, most importantly sawing instead of chopping.

This means you can notch wood very accuratly and saw to make flat edges instead of rounded from chopping.

And the diamond sharpener hidden in this knife makes it an awsome package.

Happy Easter everyone. :-)

Mr. Roberson,

It is good to see you still around here. It is always fun to be able to interact with a designer.

I just wanted to add a little more content to this thread besides my post above. About a month or so ago I bought one of the older versions off the bay. I had always been interested in the design. I have yet to use it yet as we are just getting out of the dark days of winter but I do plan to put it into use during the upcoming camping seasons. I will comment though that I would not get the newest iteration of this knife. It is now made with a 5cr steel that really is not very good. Also the sheath on the new ones seem sub par. Yes the price is cheap (about $22) but I will gladly pay more for better materials and a better sheath.

Some pics I just took to help this thread out a bit:

Craytab, thanks for the kind words. That is a great find in that older SEAL model. They are getting harder to find. Did you know that was the same model used in BattleStar Galactica ? :-)

The steel on the new models is not like the older models and the price reflects that. There are miles of threads on this subject with almost every company and most models made. I have been carrying the original China made Hunter Revolver ever since it came out and I swear it is a tough knife to beat. I have used mine for so many things and it has yet to fail me in any way. I seldom have to sharpen mine and when I do I mostly use a ceramic rod first. If the rod brings it back to where I feel good about it then I do not use a stone or diamond.

So many times I see people waste so much of their blades by not trying a ceramic rod first. The price point is low on these newer knives and for that price, I know lots of people who buy 2 or 3 knives and scatter them out in vehicles and at hunting camps etc. I do see your point and I do agree the nylon sheath is not what I use because I dont like nylon........but the knives are everything I had hoped for and more when it comes to every day cutting, sawing and making shelters and field dressing game.

I have several buddies who swear to me they cant tell a whole lot of difference in the old and new steel except the AUS-8 might be a little easier to sharpen.

I dont know how many deer the 2.0 will dress before a touch up with a rod, but I bet its going to do pretty well. And especially for the price and the ability to have a double cut bone/wood saw and a sharpener included with a leather sheath.

The older models will always have a special place in my heart of course. And they are premium steel in my opinion. But they also cost about $100 when they first came out and stayed around $90 for years until they changed where they were made. Your reasons are true and valid with me. But so many people accross the country feel differently about this. I did not understand for a while but now I realize there are just so many people that refuse to pay that extra like you.

I just feel very blessed they are still going strong after almost 12 years. Thank you for your support and feel free to email me any time if I can help you.

Thank you for the response Robbie.

Oh yes. I remember it in Battlestar Galactica. When she put the knife in her mouth it was hot! Also used in The Grey if I remember correctly. That hole in the blade is unmistakable.

I really like the AUS8 that SOG does. It takes it up a notch from what other companies do with the same steel. Glad I found an original one.

I'll get some shots of it in use this summer and post em up!

Take care,
Ed
