Hi,

I'm looking for recs for good outdoor bushcraft and survival videos. Along the lines of Ron Hood, Ray Mears, Mors Kochalski, etc. Interested in anything good. thanks.

Ray Mears stuff while nice tends to aim at the general audience and as such its more of a Discovery Channel/Lonely Planet really.

There are a *few good episodes that concentrate a lot on skills but you would have to buy all the DVD's to see just a few things.

Ron Hoods are probably the best for actual hands on but Ron tends to deal with the rule of 'Nuff' good enough strong enough etc and because of that most of the items are rarely things of beauty, where, if you see Ray Mears make things they are usually very well made and crafted.

I only have experience with these two people, others here will undoubtedly chip in.

*Episodes: Aboriginal Britain from series 1
Birchbark Canoe, Sweden and Four seasons from Series 2

Check out Michel Blomgren's stuff at www.bushcraft.se. He's an amateur who does all his own filming and editing etc. Production values are very high, considering. Someone should give him a salary and a production team...

He presents good info in a clear way. His movies are real and information-dense, which is a nice change from Ray Mears' fluffy drivel.

Edited to add: He's got a Paypal "donate" button up now, so if you like it consider dropping him a few bucks. (I have no relationship to him other than liking his survival videos.)

Downloaded and watched the first, now downloading the secong. Extremely well made all things considered. Typical Scandinavian common sense stuff. I plan to donate a little after the second show, this guy should really be encouraged!
