screencast
After a winter spring and summer of use I have zero complaints about this knife. I purchased the alternative benchmade plastic sheath a couple of months after using. The leather sheath has held up nicely. In the no dangling high wear position, in my opinion one of the positive points of the leather sheath, it takes a little extra concentration to get it re sheathed. I use both the leather and plastic sheath dependent on the days activities.
The knife has shined both around the fire, on the trail and fishing. Around the kitchen at camp, and around the fire it has been great. The edge retention is such a huge step above becker-ka-bar and esse( some of my previous camp used knives) I almost feel like I'm slacking on knife maintenance. I have spared this knife no normal use. Carving, cutting, gutting, chopping, slicing, dicing, digging and firestarter. It's been great. Where a lot of other knives, admittedly below the price point, required modification to meet MY expectations and needs, the benchmade needed none. I have stripped, reprofiled, re-handled, and spent more time sharpening than using. This knife has been nothing like that right out of the box.
I was impressed right outside of the box. I was impressed a couple of months in. And I'm still impressed. The handle design makes sense after really using it, and I like it. Getting up high on the handle, sideways handholds and reverse holds are all comfortable. The weight forward feel helps with chopping and slicing thicker material. The steel has, and I can't say this enough retained it's edge and resisted rust\staining at a level so far above anything else I have ever used it is hard to compare. It's like comparing a high school ball player to a pro MVP.
