Hey guys,
Anyone ever made a bushing lapper, want to try some in a folder and would prefer to make my own tool for it. Seems straight forward to me, a faced piece of hardened steel with a hole reamed through it. Anything I’m missing?
Thanks

Based on the one I have you will just need that hole suuuuuuuuuuuper square and accurate to the face, then some kind of plunger to give some pressure from the back. Its a basic tool. The costly part is all the little fittings that allow you to use many different size bushings. If you use one size, it seems to me it could be made fairly cheaply but as usual, its probably more complicated than that.

I have access to a lathe so I should be able to drill and ream a very square hole. I may go over to the machine shop and see what they could do for me

I made my own from 1-1/2 stainless rod, face off on the lathe drill and ream, parrt off and surface grind. Plunger can be made from round brass stock.

well if you think about it there is a 1/8 hole 3/16 bushing
then there is the 3/16 hole that is 1/4 outside
made mine out of 5/16-3/8 thick blade steel, then heat treated and ream the center hole to final size..
