Since I'm often in the woods I always carry a little tick remover with me in my wallet. I have been wondering for a while what if I loose it, can I make one myself in the woods? I often notice ticks while they are still crawling on me, but today I found one attached. So I picked a small stick and made a wooden replica of my tick remover to try it out. Thought it might be nice to share my experience here.

after a bit of carving I got this (comparison with my standard tick remover)

Time to try if it works (sorry it is not sharp, but you can slightly see the tiny tick)

Success! Complete removal. Unfortunately the tick dropped on the ground somewhere. But it worked good enough.

Well I keep the standard tick remover in my wallet since it is a bit more easy. But was nice to learn it works. Took less than 5 min to make it and remove the tick. Next time I'll probably change the design a bit. Now I created a V-shaped hole in the stick and pull on it to remove the tick. Next time I'll probably create a V-shaped notch at the end of a stick which you have to push then to remove the tick (just easier to carve).

Cool project, but i just use my fingers to pull them out by the head.
Possible too, but I wouldn't use my fingers for it. Higher risk in squeezing them with you fingers whereby they release more fluid into your body. If they carry a disease like Lyme you get a higher risk of becoming infected. You have also a larger chance of incomplete removal whereby the head/jaws stay behind. Well your body will get rid of these parts in some time like with a splinter.

Sorry OFF is a brand of bug spray. I did not see you are from the Netherlands.
