hey guys just finished putting a patina on my cold steel bushman. some of the coating was coming off so I sanded it off and used mustard and vinegar.
this is the first time ive applied a patina to a knife so i wanted to know if there is normally a yellowy tinge to it.

I was pretty impressed with the result!!

Put the mustard on and leave it for a while. I have done it overnight. The longer it is on the darker the patina.

An interesting idea is to wrap the blade in vinegar soaked paper towels. If you use two different vinegars like rice and distilled white you can get an interesting two tone finish. I prefer to not use mustard because of the weird pattern it leaves behind. I have use it a few times and usually wind up polishing it off and doing another patina or just putting a darker patina over it. You can use mustard to make a pattern break using another acid for the patina, though.

Also using vinegar and mustard, afterwards I washed mine with soap and water and lightly scrubbed with a green pad and got something like this...

Mustard followed by an overnight bath in vinegar is a fun way to get some really neat patina effects on a blade. You can draw in the mustard to give it designes, then the vinegar will darken it all so it looks almost like damascus.

Ive just left it wrapped up in vinegar, ill post pics ifit looks good when i get back from school
