The BushMaster is also getting a minor facelift this year. Here are some pics and stats.

Specs:

10" Overall
5" blade
5" handle

Blade:

  • CPM3V, 0.220" thick CPM 3V, full flat grind, deep spark-throwing thumbgrooves, drop point tip, small but effective guard, 5" length no matter how you measure it.
  • 220 grit finish on the blade (future production run will be stone-tumbled), brushed finish on the flats.
  • Finishes are *restorable* with a simple scotchbrite pad.
  • No change in overall profile (will fit existing JRE sheaths).
Handle:

  • 5" long handle = *plenty* of room for even the biggest hands. 1/4" slabs = "tall oval" profile that fits even small hands. Part of the reason this model gets such good reviews from so many different buyers. ;)
  • Handle fronts are curved and tapered for easy entry into sheaths.
  • Synthetics are *heavily* bead-blasted an extra grippy feel you can actually see.
  • Hardwood handles are handsanded to a 600 grit finish and lovingly :D handrubbed to a matte finish with Briwax. Durable and restorable.
  • One Corby Pin and one Lanyard tube provide a mechanical adhesion. 2-ton Devcon Epoxy seals the joint between handle and tang.
  • Full tang is *skeletonized* - which contributes a TON to the nice balance this knife has and the overall light weight. Where else can you find a full tang 10" knife that weighs less than 7 oz?

Available in the following materials:
  • Natural Canvas Micarta
  • Black Canvas Micarta
  • Green Canvas Micarta
  • Orange G10
  • Blue G10
  • Red G10
  • Blue/Black G10
  • Black/Tan G10
  • Cocobolo
  • Ironwood

And now the pics!

New sheath available for 2011 !!!

This deep-sitting pouch sheath is set up for BOTH Horizontal AND Vertical carry.

Backside of the sheath - check out the stitching on the belt loop...and the rivets holding the H-carry straps! Heavy duty, indeed! :o

Pic showing the taper of the grind - NOTE: the tip is left somewhat thick, but still very usable. The thumbgrooves are left square (as is the spine everywhere except between the handle and the thumbgrooves - this is rounded slightly for comfort reasons). Lastly, check out the bead-blasted finish on the handle...you can SEE the texture in the handle. This finish is grippy whether dry or wet.

Standard deep pouch available too for the minimalists.

And, of course, the great square-bottom JRE sheaths with firesteels fit and work great too!!

Look for these in the Springtime.

Pricing will begin at $175 as this will be a full-on production run when it happens. ;)

Sheaths range from $45 to $75

Kydex sheaths also available! Both standard (pancake style) and Drop Loop (like the pouch sheath above).

Best bet is to join my Mailing List for updates and future production runs. Here is the LINK => http://www.aardvarkmailinglist.net/sub/account_manager.php?action=add&c=34043SNH&l=20500

Thanks for looking guys!!

Dan I really like it!! Especialy with that new sheath whiach allows for dual carry options.

Same here, wildmike.

I tested out the sheath and it is very practical in every way. Some horizontal carry sheaths are very bulky, but this one is fairly slender and since the knife is not overly thick in the handle, it maintains a low profile on your belt. Vertical carry is exactly what you'd expect.

Very nice all around. I'll be keeping an eye out. Thank you. Mike

Thanks for all the great comments so far.

Any other handle materials I should consider?

Dan

I really like it. I love the natural micarta but I think it would be awesome to see like elder burl handle.

Very nice Dan! I've been wanting one of these for a while. What is the blade width on these (spine to edge). Thanks.

Really torn between the bushmaster and bushcrafter. What is a man to do??????

It may come down to which is ready first, as I have a long trip planned in August I'd like to have this for.

Ironwood rules!

Just signed up for the mailing list. I keep coming back and looking at that natural on top. What a beautiful blade. Can your sheaths be made lefty with a metal clip rather than loop? This one really looks like a must have.

Other sheaths will be made available through various manufacturers. It will likely fit quite a variety of already-made sheaths too.

I have both and use much more the Bushcrafter, due to the superior cutting abilities. Your experience may vary but Bushcrafter is IMHO better choice if you are going to actually use the knife.
